Position Summary

The Boilermaker is responsible for removing, replacing, and repairing various piping systems and boiler components within a coal-fired power plant environment. Duties include working on soot blowers, burners, dampers, pumps, and flue gas desulfurization (FGD) equipment. Candidates must be able to troubleshoot and identify both minor and major equipment issues, perform steel and pipe fabrication, and safely execute maintenance and repair activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 6+ years of Boilermaker experience in an industrial setting
  • NCCER Industrial Boilermaker Certification required
  • Must pass required Boilermaker Craft Test
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Must meet all physical requirements of the position
  • Must provide all required tools
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule, including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed
  • Self-motivated with a strong commitment to safety
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesGeneral Craft Responsibilities
  • Read specifications, drawings, and blueprints to determine work scope, material requirements, and installation procedures
  • Identify and properly use all tools required for assigned tasks
  • Recognize safety hazards and implement appropriate controls
  • Fabricate and install equipment according to drawings and supervisor instructions
  • Hoist materials, tools, and equipment using rigging equipment and cranes
  • Perform steel fabrication using torches, plasma cutters, band saws, grinders, and similar equipment
  • Perform minor pipe fabrication, including field measurements and like-in-kind pipe replacement
  • Prepare pipe and steel for welding procedures
  • Follow all supervisor and project directions
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Drawing and Blueprint Interpretation
  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, specifications, and procedures
  • Understand symbols, legends, elevations, and piece marks
  • Verify proper orientation and installation requirements
Rigging and Material Handling
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safe rigging practices, including chokers, slings, and lifting devices
  • Use chain hoists, come-a-longs, tuggers, and other rigging equipment safely
  • Tie appropriate knots for lifting, lashing, and tag line applications
  • Signal and flag equipment operations when required
Pipe Installation and Connections
  • Perform pipe bolt-ups and valve installations
  • Properly utilize torque wrenches and specialty tools
  • Understand installation procedures and quality requirements
Fabrication
  • Read cut sheets and perform layout work
  • Measure, cut, and prepare materials
  • Execute fabrication projects independently and lead helpers when assigned
Welding and Cutting Knowledge
  • Understand torch setup, operation, maintenance, and safety practices
  • Identify proper tip selection and usage
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cutting and heating applications
Equipment Operation Knowledge
  • Knowledge of JLG man lifts, rough-terrain and straight-terrain forklifts
  • Ability to be trained and qualified on site equipment
  • Perform basic equipment inspections and safe operating practices
Leadership and Planning
  • Perform all duties associated with the craft trade
  • Stop work when safety concerns, misinformation, or other risks are identified
  • Plan work activities and coordinate resources effectively
  • Lead and direct helpers as needed
Math Skills

Ability to perform basic construction math, including:

  • Addition
  • Subtraction
  • Multiplication
  • Division
  • Fractions
  • Footage calculations
Physical Demands
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and work at elevated heights
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Use of hands and arms for grasping, pushing, pulling, and operating tools
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a construction environment
  • Must wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety vest, respirator (as required), and steel-toe boots
Work Environment
  • Outdoor industrial construction and maintenance environment
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain
  • Moderate to high noise levels
  • Regular interaction with heavy equipment, cranes, forklifts, vehicles, tools, and construction personnel
  • Work may be performed at various elevations and in confined spaces
Required Certifications
  • NCCER Industrial Boilermaker Certification
  • Boilermaker Craft Test
  • Valid Driver's License
