Job Description:
Location: Waterloo, ON, Ottawa, ON or Plano, TX.
BlackBerry is currently seeking a Patent Administrator to join the global Patent Prosecution team. The Patent Administrator will provide support, including preparing documentation, coordinating filing and prosecution of patent applications worldwide. The Patent Administrator will also help to create, organize, maintain electronic patent files and database and coordinate with outside counsel and BlackBerry's internal patent agents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and update worldwide PTO and in-house due dates in patent database.
- Maintain electronic patent files.
- Run docket reports to track and follow up on deadlines.
- Support BlackBerry's internal patent agents with all phases of patent prosecution.
- Monitor emails and correspond with outside counsel to ensure all deadlines are met.
- Interact with BlackBerry’s internal patent professionals, patent administrators and other BlackBerry departments to facilitate patent work.
- Prepare and coordinate the execution of assignments and declarations.
- Collaborate with administration team on projects.
- Assist with invoice review process.
- Provide other administrative support to the Intellectual Property teams as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a time-sensitive patent administration role with docketing experience.
- Understanding of legal terms, domestic and foreign patent laws and processes.
- Ability to interpret information from various patent databases around the world.
- Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
- Strong computer skills with a proficiency in MS Office.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and a team player.
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- Adaptable to a fast-paced environment.
- Experience/knowledge of Salesforce, NetSuite and Legal Tracker would be an asset.
