Position Summary

The Underwriting Associate supports underwriting operations by reviewing and analyzing underwriting applications, policy documentation, and related information to assist in risk evaluation and underwriting workflow activities. This role applies established underwriting guidelines, procedures, and regulatory requirements to support policy quoting, binding, issuance, and servicing processes. The Underwriting Associate collaborates with underwriting, brokerage, and operational teams to gather information, maintain accurate documentation, and contribute to informed underwriting decisions.

What will your job entail?

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and underwriting guidelines.

  • Review and analyze submission materials, account information, and supporting documentation to assist with risk evaluation activities.

  • Support the underwriting process by coordinating policy quoting, binding, issuance, and related administrative activities.

  • Research and apply appropriate rates, coverages, endorsements, and policy forms based on established guidelines.

  • Prepare reports and summarize underwriting data, portfolio information, and risk characteristics for internal stakeholders.

  • Issue policy transactions and servicing documents, including cancellations, non-renewals, reinstatements, and endorsements, as applicable.

  • Maintain accurate and complete underwriting files and documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with underwriters, producers, brokers, reinsurers, and internal business partners to support account management and underwriting workflows.

  • Build and maintain professional working relationships with agency, broker, and carrier partners.

  • Participate in underwriting projects, process improvement initiatives, and other assigned responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Finance, Insurance, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.

  • 1+ year of experience in underwriting, insurance operations, account management, brokerage support, or transferrable business function.

  • Ability to review and analyze underwriting submissions, account information, and supporting documentation.

  • Working knowledge of insurance principles, underwriting practices, and policy administration processes.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other business technology systems.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain required Property & Casualty and/or Surplus Lines licenses, as required by state regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Property & Casualty license

  • Experience coordinating quoting, binding, issuance, endorsements, cancellations, renewals, or reinstatements.

  • Experience working with agents, brokers, underwriters, reinsurers, or carrier partners.

  • Familiarity with underwriting guidelines, rating methodologies, policy forms, and coverage analysis.

  • Associate in Insurance Services (AIS) designation or progress toward a related insurance industry designation.

  • Experience preparing underwriting reports, analyzing portfolio data, or supporting underwriting projects and process improvement initiatives.

The target salary range for this position is $54,250.00 - $65,000.00 annually.

The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
