BIM Manager

Structural Engineering | Lakewood, Colorado

We are seeking an experienced BIM Manager to lead model development, multidisciplinary coordination, and digital design standards for our structural engineering office in Lakewood, Colorado. This role supports complex industrial and commercial buildings, facilities, and mechanical infrastructure projects.

Job Summary

The BIM Manager is the office authority for Building Information Modeling and digital coordination on large, multidisciplinary design programs. The role focuses on creating models, and identifying, coordinating, and resolving cross-disciplinary system conflicts in the model before they affect construction.

This position has two primary areas of responsibility:

  1. Develop and maintain a shared structural engineering BIM environment from initial concept through progressive design milestones and construction-phase coordination.
  2. Develop and maintain a shared multidisciplinary BIM environment through the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) phase of construction.

The BIM Manager establishes and enforces modeling standards, manages federated models, and leads clash detection and resolution across architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, civil, process, and security disciplines. The role works closely with discipline leads, the Design Manager, and client technical stakeholders to resolve coordination issues, verify model readiness at each design milestone, and support complete, construction-ready deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish, maintain, and enforce the office BIM execution plan, modeling standards, and level of development (LOD) requirements across project deliverables.
  • Lead structural model development, federation, and coordination with all engineering disciplines, integrating architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, civil, process, and security models into a coordinated federated model.
  • Plan and manage clash detection at each progressive design milestone; document identified conflicts, assign them to the appropriate discipline leads, and track each item through resolution.
  • Confirm that model content, accuracy, and level of detail align with the review and deliverable requirements of each design milestone.
  • Manage BIM technician staffing, workload, and production workflows to maintain consistent model quality, schedule performance, and compliance with office standards.
  • Support constructability reviews by verifying that models account for field-installable conditions, sequencing, access, and clearance requirements.
  • Develop and continually improve BIM standards, templates, tools, and workflows.
  • Provide model-based visualization and coordination support for client design reviews and stakeholder workshops.
  • Mentor staff and provide technical guidance on BIM practices, model coordination, and digital delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in BIM management, model coordination, or a comparable digital design leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing federated models across multiple engineering disciplines on complex commercial or industrial projects.
  • Experience supporting BIM-driven design development from concept through construction-ready or issued-for-construction (IFC) deliverables.
  • Experience managing BIM production staff and coordinating workloads across multiple concurrent projects and design phases.

Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional attention to detail, supported by strong spatial awareness and cross-disciplinary reasoning.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate model-based technical conflicts into actionable guidance for discipline leads and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead coordination across multiple disciplines, projects, and design phases simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills, with the ability to track clash detection findings, model revisions, decisions, and closeout activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with document control platforms and model/version management systems.
