We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Tax Billing Manager to join our tax operations team. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to details, and the ability to effectively manage a team. The Tax Billing Manager will be responsible for leading the Tax Billing Specialist team, developing and implementing policies, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing, resolving invoicing discrepancies, and implementing efficient invoicing and collection procedures. 

The Tax Billing Manager sets and communicates team goals, establishes priorities and operating procedures, and maximizes customer value while minimizing cost to serve. They will ensure the Tax Billing Specialist team delivers superior service and achieves team goals while driving and leading cross-functional initiatives. Additionally, they will work closely with our Finance and Tax teams. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of Tax Billing Specialists, providing guidance, training, and support as needed. Monitor individual and team performance.

  • Create and foster a positive work environment where our team members are empowered to provide excellent customer experience.

  • Support individual development and team performance through effective leadership, teaching, and performance management. 

  • Oversee the end-to-end invoicing process, from generating invoices to contacting clients for payments.

  • Drive the successful performance of the Tax Billing Specialist team through key metrics, clear accountability, and continuous improvement around the invoicing and collection functions. Ensure proper reporting and KPIs are established, measured, and managed. 

  • Provide timely review of accurate monthly billing to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. 

  • Provide timely review of outstanding invoices and identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

  • Periodically evaluate the capabilities of the Tax Billing Specialist team to facilitate company growth. 

  • Generate reports and provide insights on invoicing metrics, such as WIP aging reports, billing analysis and executive level reports for Tax Leadership.

  • Design, develop and implement systemic improvements which enable scalable delivery, streamlined processes and improved accuracy. 

  • Oversee the hiring, orienting, and training of new team members.

  • Lead and participate in cross-functional initiatives, collaborating with other departments, such as Finance. Act in a leadership role while representing the interests of tax operations and the Tax Billing Specialist team. 

  • Monitor accounts receivable aging reports and ensure team is proactively following up on overdue accounts to facilitate timely payment.

  • Coordinate with Project Delivery Leads (PDL) and internal departments to investigate and resolve customer inquiries or disputes related to invoicing or payment discrepancies in a timely manner.

  • Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and regulations related to invoicing and billing.

  • Handle special projects or initiatives related to invoicing as assigned. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in invoicing or billing, with 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role

  • Strong understanding of invoicing principles and practices 

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel 

  • Demonstrate experience establishing and analyzing key operational metrics 

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manager multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Certain states require us to disclose the pay range and benefits summary for job openings. The compensation range for this position: $85,000 - $100,000. Compensation may vary based on skills, role, and location.
