Job DescriptionWe’re a small BI team inside IFS R&D Product, and we’re looking for someone to build something that matters. Not another dashboard. The foundation — the governed, certified, scalable semantic data layer that enables over 1,500 people in our R&D organisation find and trust data.
You will drive the design, quality, and governance of our Power BI semantic models, build the deployment pipelines that bring reliability to our analytics platform, and play a lead our efforts to scale Microsoft Fabric toward AI-readiness. Your work directly enables business users across Product Management, Operations, and senior leadership to make data driven decisions.
This is a rare opportunity to play a key roll in the transformation for the data architecture role inside an established organisation, with executive backing, a clear 12-month roadmap, and a team that wants to do things properly.
This is NOT a report building role. If you are most excited about designing visuals, choosing color palettes, and building executive dashboards, this isn’t the right fit. If you are most excited about the model that makes the dashboard possible — the schema, the RLS, the measures, the refresh architecture — keep reading.
Semantic model design and ownership
- Design and maintain all shared Power BI semantic models — star schemas, composite models, calculated tables, and measure libraries
- Establish and enforce naming conventions, folder structures, and documentation standards across all models
- Own the certification process with IT for all shared datasets — ensuring every promoted model is tested, documented, and refresh-monitored
- Iterate on the existing definition and implementation of row-level security (RLS) patterns across all models handling sensitive data
Data pipeline and workspace architecture
- Design and own the workspace architecture to address team and business needs
- Build and manage deployment pipelines (dev → test → prod) for all model changes, eliminating manual workspace promotions
- Own ingestion pipelines for key REST API data sources: GitHub, Jira, ServiceNow, Claude API, etc.
- Partner with Lead and Senior BI Analysts on Fabric Lakehouse architecture and Direct Lake model migrations.
Governance and standards
- Lead workspace audit — inventorying, triaging, and classifying all existing datasets and reports
- Review, enhance and maintain the team’s governance documentation: naming standards, access control model, certification criteria
- Conduct quarterly workspace access reviews and dataset health checks
- Champion data quality — proactively identifying and resolving model performance issues before they affect users
Enablement and collaboration
- Support the self-service program by ensuring certified models are accessible, documented, and usable by business report builders
- Provide technical mentorship to BI Analyst team members on semantic modelling and DAX best practices
- Collaborate with the Business insights team to ensure models expose the right measures and dimensions for analytical use
- Participate in BI office hours to support business users building their own reports on certified datasets
- Power BI semantic model design
- Intermediate to advanced DAX
- Row-level security — static and dynamic patterns
- Power Query / M transformation logic
- Azure / Microsoft Fabric experience
- REST API data ingestion experience — especially GitHub, Jira, or ServiceNow
- Python or PySpark for Fabric notebook-based transformations
Desirable:
- Experience with deployment pipelines and ALM (Application Lifecycle Management) in Power BI
- REST API data ingestion experience — especially GitHub, Jira, or ServiceNow
- Experience working in an R&D, product, or engineering organisation — you understand sprint metrics, velocity, and development lifecycle data
- Analytical and Reporting skills (Power BI & Power Query)
- JIRA experience
- Microsoft Fabric DP-600 and/or DP-700 certification (or active pursuit of it)
- Microsoft AI-901: Azure AI Fundamentals certification (or AI-900 equivalent)
- Experience in the Enterprise Software industry would be a plus (Software, Platform, IT)
