Job Summary:

Responsible for the department unit response and placement to ensure the efficient flow of emergency and non-emergency transports and the incoming and outgoing telephone and radio transmissions.  Responsible for the daily operations of Medcom, to assure professional and consistent standard of radio and phone communications for the Emergency Medical Services Department. Interact with EMS staff, coordinate emergent and non-emergent transportation and interact with facilities to assist with movement of patients.  Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Position Responsibilities:

Properly and professionally operates MEDCOM radios, equipment, and telephones to assure efficient communications for Virtua EMS Field Operations as required by NJ Regulation.

Receives incoming calls and relays information to the chief or appropriate personnel or facility.

Complete and monitor phone patches and transfers to support immediate on line medical direction.

Enters all responses and data into a computer aided dispatch system to ensure standards and guidelines are met.  Complies with all established health system and department rules, regulations and procedures.

Performs all weekly and monthly radio testing as it relates to NJHERN regulations.

Maintains all testing results and records.

Assists with coordination of MICU Field Operations as requested by management.

Acts as a communications/coordination resource for Virtua EMS as necessary.

Coordinates transportation of emergent and non-emergent patients into and out of Virtua facilities and any contracted facilities.

Provides medical coordination for Virtua EMS resources in the event of a disaster/high profile incident. Effectively utilizes the MICU disaster recall policy as requested.

Position Qualifications Required:

Required Experience:

Previous EMS/911 dispatch experience preferred. Knowledge of local EMS systems and EMS communications.

Required Education:

High School graduate or equivalent.

Graduate of a recognized Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Training Program preferred.

Training / Certification / Licensure:

Certified as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic by the Commissioner of Health & Senior Services of the State of New Jersey preferred

Public Safety Telecommunicator Basic Training Course within 6 months of hire.

Emergency Medical Dispatcher Training Course within 6 months of hire.

Hourly Rate: $28.25
