Position Summary:
The Backhaul Coordinator is responsible for generating revenue and profit growth by filling empty miles and increasing the utilization of the Penske fleet. This position will work with all fleet operators to identify empty freight lanes and excess equipment capacity. In turn the Freight Coordinator will negotiate market rates for loads with Backhaul customers (Shippers and Brokers).

 
Major Responsibilities: 
General:
-Identify and maintain database of shippers as potential freight sources.
-Solicit brokers and shippers, quote rates.
-Execute load moves working between shippers and operations.
-Function as a single point of contact for contracted backhaul customers to resolve issues.
-Identify process improvement opportunities in freight coordination activities.
-Other projects as assigned by the supervisor

 
Backhauls:
-Identify and coordinate relationships with freight brokers and shippers.
-Identify empty lanes and maintain a tracking list. 
-Develop list of target shippers and brokers; receive lead and contact information from a variety of sources; and secure loads that can be effectively handled by the fleets.
-Secure and tender load to a company dedicated fleet; ensure load is picked up and delivered timely; and ensure billing is processed accurately and timely.
-Understand aging of receivables and manage slow, late payments. Recognize trends for potential payment defaults. Make calls to collect slow pay and manage any disputed invoices.
-Understand needs of the company’s location fleet, service tendering loads with prompt and courteous response regarding pick-up and delivery time and invoicing.
-Work with Fleet management to overcome restrictions that may prohibit backhaul.

 
Idle Equipment:
-Assist in identifying idle capacity.
-Secure and tender load to the operation; ensure load is picked up and delivered timely; and ensure billing is processed accurately and timely. 
-Understand aging of receivables and manage slow, late payments. Recognize trends for potential payment defaults. Make calls to collect slow pay and manage any disputed invoices.
-Understand needs of the company’s location fleet, service tendering loads with prompt and courteous response regarding pick-up and delivery time, claims and invoicing.

 
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Supply Chain Management preferred.
- Brokerage experience preferred.
- Logistics / Supply Chain related experience preferred.
- Ability to negotiate required. 
- Successful track record of building relationships with stakeholders or customers that have resulted in high customer satisfaction is required.
- Ability to drive results and bring viable solutions to the table in a timely manner is required.
- Ability to problem solve in a creative manner is required.
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
- Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.
