We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Channel Team based in Louvain-la-Neuve, responsible for all messaging channels. You will work in a collaborative Scrum setup with Product Managers and UX designers, directly influencing the architecture, development, and scaling of our communication services. This role also leverages AI-assisted coding with Claude to accelerate development, improve quality, and support complex backend workflows.
Backend development: Strong experience in Java and Spring, designing and implementing high-performance APIs (OpenAPI/REST).
Distributed systems & infrastructure: Experience with Kafka, MySQL, MongoDB, Tomcat, Nginx; building scalable, reliable event-driven systems. Experience with Kubernetes (K8s) and containerization is a plus.
Mobile & multichannel expertise: Deep understanding of mobile platforms, push notifications, SDK integration, SMS/email deliverability, and in-app messaging workflows.
Collaboration & product mindset: Able to work directly with PMs and UX designers, balancing technical quality with business impact.
AI-assisted coding: Comfortable using Claude or similar AI tools to accelerate development, automate testing, generate documentation, and refactor code efficiently.
CI/CD & tools: Experience with Jenkins, Git, Maven, npm, and modern DevOps pipelines.
Ownership & initiative: Proactive problem solver who contributes to system improvements, performance, and code quality.
Your are fluent in French and English.
Having basic information security competences as well as follow secure practices and policies within an ISO 27001-certified environment.

Skills Required
