We’re actively seeking a talented AVP, Operational Risk & Resilience, to join the Pacific Life Risk Management (PLRM) team. This role is hybrid/On-site; you’ll be based out of our state-of-the-art Newport Beach, CA headquarters office or our modern Omaha, NE office.
The AVP – Operational Risk & Resilience leads the strategic direction and implementation of all non-financial risk programs (cybersecurity, third party risk, IT, etc.) within a line of business division, consults on division risk, and manages business relationships leveraging expertise in operational risk and resilience to effectively drive alignment and execution at all levels of the division. You will fill an existing role that supports Pacific Life’s Institutional Division, reporting to the Institutional Division Chief Risk Officer. Your colleagues will include fellow operational risk & resilience professionals and a diverse group of business, finance, and technology leaders.
How you will make an impact:
- Lead the team in the day-to-day execution of the operational risk and resilience management framework to include key risk management activities such as periodic and change-driven risk assessments, setting of risk appetite, monitoring, and reporting of key risk and performance indicators, event reporting, and issue resolution
- Independently assess risks and drive actions to address the root causes that lead to operational risk losses by challenging both historical and proposed practices
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the enterprise to further develop and strengthen the operational risk framework
- Provide clear and concise verbal and written recommendations and guidance to internal stakeholders on matters of operational risk management
- Stay apprised of and advise on industry trends and regulatory best practices with respect to risk management and control frameworks
- Oversee the preparation of the Division's Operational Risk Committee (ORC) reporting, which may include KRls, issues, operational risk events, and remediation efforts and presenting to the ORC and Division Risk Management Committee
- Lead/support the development and maintenance of operational risk and resilience policies, standards, and guidelines
- Influence and monitor progress of action plans to improve the risk and control environment arising from risk assessments, risk monitoring, internal and external audits, and regulatory exams
- Provide education and training to business, operations, and technology associates to implement/enhance existing risk, resilience, and compliance processes to help ensure sustainability and avoid duplication of effort
The experience you will bring:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of experience in operational risk and resilience in the financial services industry, preferably a life insurer
- Strong business acumen and ability to communicate clearly and concisely and translate complex technical issues into fundamental concepts
- Strong influencing skills and ability to drive change and deliver results, with a demonstrated ability to build effective relationships, both within and across divisions, functions, and geographies
- Solid experience in designing, implementing, and validating the effectiveness of operational controls
- Change management experience, including project and/or program management

Base Pay Range:
The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
