Organizational Overview:
This role will be part of the Synchrony Asia HR/L&D team which is dedicated to fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth within the company. We work closely with various functions and leadership teams to identify organizational leadership learning needs and provide targeted solutions that align with business goals. In a dynamic and collaborative environment, we prioritize data-driven decisions, evaluating the effectiveness of our leadership programs to ensure we are meeting both employee and organizational needs. The L&D team plays a key role in shaping the company’s workforce and helping employees unlock their full potential.
Role Summary/Purpose
In this role, you will have responsibility for the design, management, delivery, and ongoing evaluation of learning programs that help our employees advance their skills and knowledge, while identifying growth gaps. You will support plans to bridge these gaps by serving as a consultant on programs and programming driven by the Learning & Development team. You will support ongoing development in line with current organizational needs by partnering with stakeholders and HR partners across all hubs (U.S., India and Philippines), as well as anticipating future development needs across all levels of the business. The role includes an Asia regional emphasis. You will facilitate training sessions locally and partner with local learning vendors to design, develop, and implement both global and locally relevant learning programs and courses.
The role requires strategic vision, critical thinking, and innovative approaches to elevate learning programs, strengthen leadership capability, and improve measurable outcomes.
Role Expectations
The AVP, L&D:
Has an acute sense of organizational goals and objectives, and designs and delivers learning experiences aligned to business priorities, including priorities across our Asia hubs.
Has a strong understanding of portfolios and sub-processes and their learning and development requirements, with the ability to translate global learning strategy into locally effective solutions for India and Philippines audiences.
Adopts a global One Synchrony mindset in all learning and development initiatives, rooted in strategic thinking, including needs identification, design, delivery, support, vendor partnership, and curation that results in a holistic learning framework with strong adoption and impact in Asia hubs.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, design, and deploy Leadership Development programs and programming to ensure employees are equipped with competencies needed to be successful at work, including leadership learning design and facilitation of leadership programs for US and Asia hub audiences.
Serve as a key learning partner for our Asia hubs by facilitating learning sessions locally (in-person and virtual) and ensuring a consistent, high-quality learner experience.
Partner with local learning vendors in Asia hubs to design, develop, and implement global learning programs (localized as needed) and hub-specific programs/courses aligned to business and cultural context.
Implement learning needs identification and assessment tools (surveys, focus groups/brainstorming, one-to-one meetings) across hubs.
Create, maintain and report Learning Dashboards for the L&D team and function being serviced; effectively measuring impact of all learning interventions by monitoring the success of the programs enabling employees to make the most of learning opportunities and deliver value for the business.
Create and maintain analytic rigor for learner audience (nominations, footfall, coverage, diversity, impact) with hub-level tracking globally.
Measure impact and demonstrable change from learning needs identification through post-learning outcomes; apply insights to continuously improve learning effectiveness.
Act as a lead, facilitate programs, and engage as a producer to support program delivery as per learning plans, including end-to-end facilitation readiness and delivery excellence.
Identify and embrace multiple learning modalities (coaching, job-shadowing, workshops, classroom, online) across in-person, virtual, and hybrid environments to meet business/individual needs, including time-zone and learner context considerations for global hubs.
Establish and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the organization and functions/hubs with consistent stakeholder, Workforce Planning Ops and HR partner engagement, to provide relevant learning opportunities and strengthen adoption and reinforcement in day-to-day work.
Develop and drive stakeholder assessments, learning plans, and projects that assist in facilitation of strategic learning goals.
Build strong supplier relationships and support the supplier management lifecycle in partnership with the Sourcing and Supplier Management Team, including selection, governance, and performance management to deliver best-fit content and solutions.
Stay abreast of developments and challenges in driving a learning culture; bring insights to the L&D team to develop strategies and focused interventions.
Budget management, understanding of yearly allocation, proper utilization, and accountability, including budget considerations for Asia hub delivery and vendor partnerships.
Required Skills/Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ experience in learning and development, or in lieu of a degree, 7+ years of experience in learning and development.
Minimum 2 years of learning, facilitation, instructional design and/or program management experience within/external to Synchrony, including demonstrated experience facilitating leadership programs.
Demonstrated experience in leadership learning design (e.g., leadership curricula, manager development, cohort-based experiences, blended solutions).
Strong presentation and facilitation skills (virtual and in-person).
Strategic thinking proficiency, with demonstrated ability to translate strategy into scalable programs and measurable outcomes across global audiences.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities across global stakeholders and different time zones.
Flexibility in work hours in support of hybrid and global environment.
Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications, including Teams.
Desired Skills/Knowledge
Minimum 5+ years demonstrated learning & development leadership experience, including leadership program delivery and/or leadership capability building.
Demonstrated ability to report data and analyze learning processes using reporting tools like Tableau / SAS BI (or similar) to drive improvements and recommendations.
Ability to think and act strategically in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment; uses critical thinking and innovation to elevate learning outcomes.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with little supervision in a virtual environment, while maintaining strong execution in Asia hubs.
Strong in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Proven facilitation skills and experience delivering presentations and programs at various levels of the organization, including leadership audiences.
Experience in project management and maintaining budgets.
Experience in supplier management with strong communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to build strong relationships with supplier partners, including local vendor partnerships in Asia hubs.
Eligibility criteria
Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ experience in learning and development, or in lieu of a degree, 7+ years of experience in learning and development.
Work Timings:
This role is eligible for Enhanced Flexibility and Choice offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally) on most days. This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may vary periodically due to business needs. Given the responsibilities and programs supported, this role will also require some flexibility with work timings. When there is a training program or learning session being conducted, the incumbent would be expected to flex their schedules to be available for the entire duration of the program.
