Job Description

About this job:

This position in our North America Life (“NAL”) Finance team involves the delivery of meaningful financial reporting and analysis for PartnerRe Life Reinsurance Company of Canada (“PLRC”). This role will primarily involve the following duties:

  • Manage PLRC’s quarterly IFRS financial close process for external reporting purposes. This will involve maintaining end-to-end ownership of operating timelines and coordinating inputs with various cross functional teams.
  • Lead the preparation of OSFI’s quarterly and annual regulatory returns (i.e., LF1/LF2/LF3/LF4/LICAT) and financial information prepared for other agencies (i.e., Statistics Canada).
  • Assist with the preparation and compilation of the quarterly audit and investment committee materials for PLRC, including liaison and collaboration with other functions. 
  • Manage the coordination of the external audit process. Prepare annual financial statements and related documentation for external audit purposes. This will include assessing the impact of emerging accounting standards and proactively addressing external audit queries.
  • Support the analysis and communication of technical and other financial results for management review meetings.
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly tax reports and the annual filing of corporate/indirect tax returns, in collaboration with service providers and the group tax function.
  • Analyze the impact on processes and controls for new transactions. Implement new process changes as needed to ensure appropriate controls are in place.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation related to new and existing processes for ease of internal and external audit review.
  • Oversee the preparation of internal retrocession accounting entries and manage the related reporting and settlement process.
  • Liaise and collaborate with IT and Valuation teams on regression testing for Risk Integrity and related matters.
  • Train, manage and develop the PLRC reporting team.
  • Perform ad hoc projects as and when required, including review of operating procedures and the analysis of accounting transactions.

Qualifications

About you:

You are an experienced (8+ years of Post-Qualification experience) accountant with diverse financial reporting and operational finance skills. Ideally you have experience working in a global re/insurance organization and are looking to continue building on your skills in a dynamic and culturally diverse environment. You will also bring the following experience/profile:

  • Collaborative mindset, willing to work across various geographies and time zones.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel and Power Point.
  • Exposure to complex entity structures, with multicurrency reporting, multiple entities, and multiple accounting bases for the same entity.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and willing to rise to new challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills & effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-identification and resolution skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of a major general ledger system and reporting tools, such as People Soft general ledger, Sun systems general ledger, NVision reporting, Business Objects and Risk Integrity.
  • Experience with Canadian Corporate and Indirect tax.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with senior management, peers, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote effective teamwork and accountability.
