Summary: This role is responsible for evolving the Corporate Actuarial function. Oversees Loss Reserving and Claims Actuarial functions, while also overseeing other cross-departmental functions such as Actuarial Studies Team and Capital Management. Serves as the Actuarial liaison to various functional areas. Presents recommendations to management.  Ensures that work adheres to actuarial principles and internal policies/standards.  Train, coach and develop staff.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Responsible for establishing and evolving the strategic direction of the Corporate Actuarial function.
  • Oversee and lead various non-pricing functions within Actuarial. This includes Loss Reserving and Claims Actuarial and may include other functions such as Actuarial Studies and Capital Management.
  • Ensure the reserve analysis adheres to Actuarial Standards of Practice.
  • Partner with Claims leaders to provide analytical support and interpret Claims-related initiatives or trends, including being a part of the Claims Extended Leadership Team.
  • Manage and/or consult on various capital and reinsurance related topics, such as capital adequacy models and analysis to support evaluation of capital position, risk transfer programs to align with risk appetite statements and capital constructs (economic, rating agency, regulatory), evaluation of business development opportunities including impact to economic capital and impact to financial statements, and development of enterprise risk appetite and tolerances.
  • Manage and/or consult on other topics Actuarial in nature, such as accident year performance, loss planning support, actuarial best practices and modernization, and data coordination.
  • Prepares presentations and may present technical topics and analysis to executive and Board audiences.
  • Clearly communicates positioning on issues and interacts professionally with a diverse group, including executives, managers, subject matter experts and vendors.
  • Collaborate with business partners and peers to ensure analyses, insights and results are effectively leveraged.
  • Employ continuous improvement, automation, and innovation to increase efficiency of the Corporate Actuarial function.
  • Develop staff through training, coaching, performance feedback, performance assessments and establishing development plans.
  • Establish, communicate, and implement team plans, objectives, and strategies.
  • Maintain actuarial continuing education requirements.

 

What You’ll Bring To The Company:

College degree with significant course work in a quantitative field such as math, statistics or actuarial science experience is required.  ACAS is required, FCAS is preferred. Minimum of ten years of varied actuarial experience is preferred. Three or more years of managerial experience with proven leadership skills is required. Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the ability to balance strategic and tactical situations. Ability to use independent judgment to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload and manage competing priorities. Candidate must have an aptitude for critical thinking and problem resolution. Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to effectively explain complex ideas.  Pricing experience in Personal and/or Commercial Lines is strongly desired.  Commercial Lines experience is also desired especially in Commercial Specialty (E & S, Programs, etc.) as well as experience in Assumed Reinsurance.
