The AVP, Capital Partners is responsible for supporting the financial accounting, internal controls, budgeting, and financial reporting for the Capital Partners segment, working with the segment’s business leaders in providing greater financial analysis of past and future outcomes, at appropriate levels of granularity. This role is also responsible for supporting global projects to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of reporting requirements in an increasingly complex environment and will have close interaction across multiple functional areas of the business working with the global finance team to add value across relevant business areas. In addition, this role is responsible for supporting the oversight and support of strategic projects and initiatives for the global finance function in addition to managing and developing team members.

Principal Accountabilities:

Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Supporting the preparation of accurate financial reporting, both for internal and external purposes following required GAAP and regulatory standards, including providing support for more technical areas.

  • Review and/or assist in the generation of monthly and quarterly financial statements and NAV calculations, including calculation of performance fees and accounting for side pockets.

  • Provide support to the business team on investor queries.

  • Assist with the review of investment valuations.

  • Assist with the management accounts for reinsurance companies and coordination with the external insurance manager on a monthly basis.

  • Assist with the review of reports for regulators and tax authorities.

  • Assist with reinsurance regulatory submissions and financial statements.

  • Assist with the processing of reinsurance contracts and settlement of cash transfers.

  • Support ad hoc segment projects and provide support as needed.

  • Liaise with internal and external auditors.

Strategic Projects

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and enhancement at a global level and propose and implement solutions to improve the efficiency of the functional area.

  • Support large global projects and/or key project workstreams specific to large global projects.

  • Engage in miscellaneous project work and provide general assistance to the global finance team and other functional areas as necessary.

  • Provide ad hoc support to the Chief Accounting Officer, Global Corporate Controller and/or business lead as required. Team Oversight

  • Assist with managing the team of professionals and provide appropriate guidance.

Expected Competencies:

  • A university degree essential with emphasis on business, finance, or accounting; an advanced degree advantageous.

  • Professional accounting designation required (e.g. CA, ACA, CPA).

  • A minimum of eight years of relevant post qualification experience including at least two years of Big Four audit experience, preferably within reinsurance accounting with a minimum of 6 years of experience in the reinsurance industry.

  • Insurance designation would be an asset.

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, including experience reviewing and managing complex assumed and ceded (re)insurance contracts and related claims.

  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Proven ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work on own initiative and complete work in a methodical, thorough and organized manner.

  • Be an efficient and effective team member and participate fully to achieve team goals.

  • Excellent numerical skills and keen attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in the use of computer systems and applications (e.g. Microsoft Office suite, etc.).

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 general ledger and SICS (re)insurance accounting sub-ledger is required.

  • Proven problem-solving skills and strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Proven ability to support global strategic projects and initiatives is required.

  • Proven ability to coordinate/communicate with accounting professionals in multiple locations.

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to develop junior staff and team.
