Who We Are

Nuro believes self-driving vehicles are the most immediate and profound opportunity for AI to drive positive change in the physical world. Safer streets, more time for what matters, and easier access to the world around us, that’s why we’re building a universal autonomy platform: self-driving for all roads and all rides.
Founded in 2016, Nuro is a physical AI company developing Level 4 autonomous driving technology for a wide range of vehicles, use cases, and markets. Powered by the Nuro Driver™, our universal autonomy platform enables the global mobility ecosystem to deploy autonomy at scale, from robotaxis and logistics fleets to personal vehicles.
With years of real-world deployment experience and a flexible, partner-led business model, Nuro is working toward a future where millions of autonomous vehicles powered by our technology help make everyday life safer, easier, and more connected.
Nuro has raised over $2B in capital from Uber, NVIDIA, Google, Softbank, Fidelity, T. Rowe Price, and other leading investors.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced leader to be our Head of AV HW Mechanical Design and lead our world class team of engineers. In this role you will be responsible for the research, design, and delivery of our autonomous hardware solutions that enable Nuro’s autonomous driving systems. This work spans electronics packaging, sensor packaging, vehicle integrations, and sensor weather mitigation, and success requires the ability to manage the full product lifecycle, key partnerships with electrical and software engineering counterparts, and long term R&D efforts. Leading this team will also require strong organizational and communications skills. You will be responsible for managing a large engineering team working across multiple product lines, driving a culture of accountability and technical rigor, and developing the people and processes of the team.

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with electrical, software, planning, procurement, and production teams to ensure our products meet our high bar of excellence and performance.
  • Own and support the industrialization and manufacturing of our mechanical systems and modules from first prototype to production ramp.
  • Support and mentor individual contributors and managers with a focus on career development, culture building, technical rigor, and product excellence.
  • Collaborate closely with organization leadership and the TPM team to help define program timelines and prioritization across programs.
  • Ensure mechanical design efforts are meeting program milestones by driving critical cross-functional milestone reviews to the org and leadership.
  • Takes ownership of critical program issues to develop countermeasures, drive resolution, and monitor progress.

About You

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
  • Professional engineering experience of 8+ years, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing teams.
  • Demonstrated excellence in mechanical design and delivering complex mechanical products at low and high volumes.
  • Experience with automotive or consumer electronics product cycles, including qualification, validation, and high-volume manufacturing.
  • A strong communicator that can interact with working level engineers, internal leadership, and key external suppliers to advocate on behalf of mechanical design to produce the best possible product.
  • Proven ability to recruit, mentor, and scale a world-class engineering organization.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and project management skills. Relentlessly resourceful, with a bias towards action.
