APMT is, like Maersk, undergoing an all-encompassing transformation from a multi-local, loosely coupled portfolio of local terminals towards an integrated, best-in-class global terminal operator and stevedore. We casually refer to the journey as ‘from freestyle to franchise’. The transformation involves developing and rolling out APMT’s Way of Working, built around a common operating system founded on Lean principles. Specifically on automation, the transformation aims to develop its automation strategy that will improve the Safety of our teams through segregation of man and machine while increasing our productivity.
 

Automation Transformation

The Transformation Program Lead will work with the APMT management team to operationalize the Operational Technology strategy (OT) and increase productivity while providing a safer operating environment.

This position requires a mix of program & project management expertise, business and financial acumen, and strong soft skills and the ability to frame up, execute, and drive resolution to complex issues. This is a dynamic, fast paced role that can simultaneously see the bigger picture along with the small pieces that are critical to success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Automation of container terminals is niche. In the last few years, APM Terminals has ran a number of standalone implementation projects and smaller pilots, while testing a range of different technologies. Now is the time to develop a strategic approach to automation. As such, the transformation program lead will refine the strategy and roll out plan, the roadmap,; develop the business case; develop the change and comms plan as well as identify risks and dependencies. Note some individual projects or pilots are under execution.

  • Provide high level strategic and authoritative advice and recommendations to influence/inform strategic decisions and initiatives and to facilitate shared understanding of the future vision, and articulation of common needs and approaches.

  • Lead the strategic delivery of the Automation agenda across terminals in scope, in collaboration with regional teams.

  • Collaborate across existing functions to maintain an end-to-end view of customer experience.

  • Analyse data on quality, and operational performance outcomes to support benchmarking and program output.

  • Develop, implement and optimize strategies leading to enhanced operations, controls, efficiencies, choice making, and effectiveness which support critical priorities, frameworks, policies and guidelines.

  • Establish and lead the program in accordance with APMT project management standards.

  • Accountable for the execution of the program in accordance with agreed business case, KPIs and targets throughout the complete life cycle.

  • Develop strategic relationships, both internal and external, to collaborate and provide direction and advice to influence decisions and support initiatives to deliver on program objectives.

  • Provide management and ownership in determining relevant policies, service level agreements, determining control standards and identifying issue escalation matrix.

  • Lead, motivate, and mentor the program team, monitoring performance, fostering ongoing professional development and ensures staff have the knowledge and skills to achieve their work objectives in alignment with our values.

  • Senior-level interface on all aspects of the program/

Critical Qualifications/Experience:

  • Relevant solid experience including at least 3 years direct managerial experience in a multi-national company with exposure to C-Suite level.

  • Experience within industry with familiarity with higher education.

  • Solid program management experience in a dynamic organization. Experience on capex intensive investments will be an added advantage.

  • Background in management consultancy preferred.

  • Strong financial acumen.

  • Experience with automation or heavy equipment industries.

  • Experience leading initiatives cross-functionally, working successfully in large, complex organizations and leading change efforts is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to present to and partner with executive leadership teams.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proven ability to drive transformative culture change through innovation and improvement.

  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary teams through influence and demonstration of value.

  • Skilled in categorization, risk and benefits analysis, and prioritization of projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with all levels of organization.

  • Excellent people skills, the ability to work in a group or independently and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and changing demands while being responsive to end user needs.

  • Ability to understand, manage and communicate complex technical infrastructure, resources and issues.

  • Demonstrated expertise and proven experience in the areas of strategic planning, relationship building, change management, and interaction with senior level leaders.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex information in a succinct, organized manner.
