The OpenShift Local team is looking for an Automation Software Engineer to join in Brno Office the team to expand the automation of our workflows, as we support more tools on the developer workstation with Red Hat Desktop.

The OpenShift Local team provides most of the low level facilities allowing to run Red Hat products on the developer workstation: Podman container engine for Linux containers, local versions of OpenShift, MicroShift and RHEL. This team works to provide the virtualization stack, networking and storage support for Windows and macOS, and the needed customizations to deliver local running versions of the Red Hat products. 

Red Hat Desktop is a Red Hat product based mostly on Podman Desktop, the widely popular Open Source application running on developer workstations, Windows, macOS or Linux. It allows developers to easily manage containers, build, push and use images using Podman or Docker as the underlying container engine. It also has support for Kubernetes easing the transition towards managed container applications.

The ideal candidate will be a highly collaborative person with a passion for delivering a flawless experience to a large audience, automating processes and working collaboratively with internal users, customers and the community at large, able to harness the power of AI tooling to deliver and maintain tests and automation. Attention to details and capability to test and raise issues across a very complex stack, involving virtualization, containers running on 3 different platforms.

What will you do?

  • Help design, expand and maintain the code, tools and automation in use by the OpenShift Local team. OpenShift Local relies on tools and frameworks used for automated builds, implementing E2E test scenarios, automating the tests on various CI systems and across multiple operating systems. A lot of that work will be provided based on AI tooling.

  • Be able to provide comprehensive reports regarding software defects in any area of the project or dependent technology and advocate their resolution with developers. 

  • Collaborate tightly with the rest of the OpenShift Local team and other teams like Podman and Podman Desktop to provide feedback on new and pending issues, builds status, release readiness and general status report

  • Take part on the testing still required to validate release readiness

What will you bring?

  • Proficiency in Python and Golang language

  • Practical experience with CI/CD systems, any of GitHub Actions, Jenkins, OpenShift Pipelines (Tekton) or similar

  • Practical experience leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) to accelerate test automation development

Nice to Have:

  • Experience on Linux, Windows, Mac (bash, zsh, PowerShell), containers or Kubernetes

  • Familiarity with participating in an agile development team

  • Hands-on experience integrating AI/LLM tools into software development lifecycles.

  • Ability to evaluate and implement AI-driven solutions for automated log analysis, root cause identification, and "self-healing" test suites.

  • Knowledge of AWS or Azure service providers
