The Automation & Controls Engineer, under general supervision, performs a variety of work in the specialized maintenance and repair of equipment, building and facility controls. The Automation & Controls Engineer reports to the Maintenance Manager and is responsible for providing a safe and reliable manufacturing environment through a continuous improvement culture. The successful candidate will work with a team of maintenance technicians across his/her designated shift. He/she will enjoy working with a team of capable employees while continuing to grow and develop their skills to meet the needs of the company.

As an Automation & Controls Engineer, you will utilize your expertise to:

  • Develop and document electrical controls improvement projects.
  • Train Maintenance and Production personnel on the use and troubleshooting of the systems as designed.
  • Maintain software, PLC programs and parameter settings in an organized, universal and easily accessible system.
  • Act as the controls expert in resolving operational controls issues that cannot be resolved by maintenance technicians.
  • Analyze existing production processes for automation improvement and potential.
  • Initiate, design, financially justify and present improvement projects.
  • Successfully implement improvement projects.
  • Stay current on new technology and proactively upgrade unsupported and obsolete control systems.
  • Lead projects involving outside equipment suppliers and new equipment installations while ensuring control systems meet internal requirements.
  • Standardize electrical spare and replacement parts inventory.
  • Use AutoCAD to review, develop and maintain electrical schematics.

  • Minimum Associates Degree in a Technical Engineering discipline (preferably Electrical) or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred three years of experience with electrical, controls and PLC engineering in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Record of accomplishment of initiation and implementation of creative solutions. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills, inherent curiosity and “hands on” engineering experience. 
  • Proven ability to prioritize work and multitask across multiple projects at one time. 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to train others. 
  • Complete understanding of his/her role as an internal customer service liaison.
  • Proficient with RS Logix 500 and RS Logix / Studio 5000 and their platforms (MicroLogix, CompactLogix and ControlLogix)
  • Experience programming Automation Direct HMI's and PLCs
  • Must have a valid driver license.
  • Basic computer skills in the following are required: MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD and CMMS.
  • Must be available evenings and weekends as needed to support maintenance and operations with the potential for regular overtime.

The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $115,000 annually plus annual bonus.
