Job Description:

Role Overview

We are seeking an Atlassian Platform Specialist to join our Global Competency Center in Chennai and become a key technical resource supporting our global Atlassian environment.

This is a hands-on role responsible for the administration, development and continuous improvement of Jira and the wider Atlassian platform. The role will support teams across the organization through effective workflow design, service management, automation, integrations, forms, reporting and custom solutions.

Working closely with the global platform owner, the Atlassian Platform Specialist will take ownership of day-to-day platform administration and technical delivery while helping us develop scalable, well-governed solutions.

We are looking for someone who can go beyond simply configuring Jira. The successful candidate will be comfortable understanding a business problem, investigating the requirement and recommending how Jira, Jira Service Management, automation or integration capabilities can best be used to solve it.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Administration

  • Administer and maintain Jira Cloud, Jira Service Management and associated Atlassian capabilities.
  • Configure and manage projects, workflows, issue types, screens, custom fields, schemes, permissions, notifications and platform settings.
  • Manage Jira Service Management request types, queues, SLAs, portals and service configurations.
  • Support platform access, roles, groups and permission structures.
  • Troubleshoot complex platform and configuration issues.
  • Monitor the Jira environment and identify opportunities to simplify, standardize and improve configuration.
  • Support the adoption and implementation of new Atlassian functionality.

Workflow & Solution Design

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand business requirements, challenges and processes.
  • Translate requirements into effective, scalable Jira solutions.
  • Design workflows, forms, data structures and automation supporting operational and service-management processes.
  • Determine whether requirements are best addressed through native Jira functionality, automation, APIs, integrations or custom solutions.
  • Challenge unnecessary complexity and recommend simpler or more sustainable approaches.
  • Develop reusable solutions and standards that can scale across teams and processes.

Automation, APIs & Development

  • Design, build and maintain Jira Automation rules.
  • Develop and support solutions using Jira and Atlassian REST APIs.
  • Work with REST services, JSON, webhooks and authentication methods to integrate Jira with other enterprise technologies.
  • Support integrations and data flows between Jira and platforms such as Power BI and Power Automate.
  • Troubleshoot API, automation and integration failures and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Develop custom solutions where native platform functionality does not fully meet the business requirement.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual processes through automation and integration.

Forms & Service Management

  • Design and maintain Jira and Jira Service Management forms.
  • Build intuitive request experiences that capture structured and reportable information.
  • Configure request types, forms, fields and associated workflow behavior.
  • Partner with process owners to continuously improve service experiences.
  • Ensure solutions balance user experience, process requirements and downstream reporting needs.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Develop and maintain Jira dashboards, filters and reporting solutions.
  • Build advanced JQL queries supporting operational and management reporting.
  • Support extraction of Jira data through APIs for enterprise analytics.
  • Partner with reporting and analytics resources to enable Jira data within tools such as Power BI.
  • Ensure platform configuration and data structures support reliable and meaningful reporting.
  • Develop insight into areas such as service performance, demand, workload and process effectiveness.

Platform Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Support the development and maintenance of Atlassian platform standards and governance.
  • Identify redundant or duplicated workflows, fields, automations and configurations and recommend opportunities for rationalization.
  • Maintain clear technical and functional documentation.
  • Support controlled release and change-management practices for platform configuration.
  • Research new Atlassian capabilities and recommend opportunities that could provide business value.
  • Contribute to the longer-term roadmap and evolution of the Atlassian platform.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 4+ years of hands-on Jira administration, development or Atlassian platform experience.
  • Strong experience administering Jira Cloud.
  • Strong knowledge of workflows, issue types, screens, custom fields, schemes, permissions and platform configuration.
  • Hands-on experience with Jira Service Management.
  • Strong JQL, dashboard and reporting capability.
  • Experience designing and maintaining Jira Automation.
  • Practical experience working with REST APIs.
  • Good understanding of JSON, webhooks and API authentication concepts.
  • Experience designing forms, request types and structured service-management processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Ability to independently investigate problems and take ownership through to resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a global team.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience with Confluence administration and configuration.
  • Experience integrating Jira with Power BI, Power Automate or other enterprise technologies.
  • Experience with ScriptRunner, Groovy, JavaScript, Python or similar scripting and development technologies.
  • Experience with Atlassian Analytics, Data Lake or other Atlassian reporting capabilities.
  • Understanding of Agile delivery practices and Jira Software.
  • Experience with SSO, identity management or automated user provisioning.
  • Atlassian certifications or equivalent demonstrated technical expertise.
  • Experience working within a global organization or Global Competency Center environment.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means becoming a trusted technical resource for the Atlassian platform.

You will be able to take a requirement from initial problem definition through investigation, solution design, configuration or development, testing and implementation.

You will proactively identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve the platform and automate manual activity rather than waiting for detailed configuration instructions.

Over time, you will develop increasing ownership of the technical operation of the Atlassian environment and play an important role in expanding our global capability across platform administration, development, automation, integration and reporting.

At Barry-Wehmiller we recognize that people come with a wealth of experience and talent beyond just the technical requirements of a job.  If your experience is close to what you see listed here, please still consider applying.  We know that our differences often can bring about innovation, excellence and meaningful work—therefore, people from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply to our positions.  Please let us know if you require reasonable accommodations during the interview process.
