The Role: Application Administrator

As an Application Administrator at Switch focused on Jira Service Management, you will help manage and evolve one of the core platforms supporting our internal operations. You will work closely with stakeholders and other administrators to configure, maintain, and enhance Jira Service Management and the broader Atlassian platform.
This role focuses on designing workflows, automations, and integrations that improve operational efficiency and support Switch’s growth. You will collaborate across teams to implement scalable solutions while maintaining system reliability, security, and usability.
While Jira Service Management is the primary focus, the role may also assist with administration and integrations involving other enterprise applications.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Administer and support Switch’s Atlassian platform including Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence, and related plugins.
  • Configure and maintain Jira Service Management projects, request types, workflows, and service processes.
  • Design and maintain workflows including transition rules, post functions, screens, and custom fields.
  • Develop and maintain automation rules to streamline ticket management and service operations.
  • Manage user access, permissions, and security configurations.
  • Maintain and upgrade Atlassian platforms and plugins.
  • Build reports, filters, and dashboards using Jira Query Language (JQL).
  • Integrate Jira with other enterprise systems to automate business processes.
  • Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and implement Jira-based solutions.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to system configuration, workflows, and integrations.
  • Maintain documentation related to Jira configuration and administration.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to team initiatives as needed.

What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum 3 years of experience administering Jira, including Jira Service Management and Jira Software.
  • Strong experience configuring Jira workflows, automation rules, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Experience administering Confluence.
  • Experience using scripting languages.

Technical Experience

  • Must have strong experience developing automation using Jira automation rules or scripting tools such as Groovy, PowerShell, or Ansible.
  • Experience integrating Jira with other enterprise systems using APIs or other integration methods.
  • Experience with relational databases and writing SQL queries for reporting or troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with web services, logging systems, and email integrations.
  • Familiarity with source control systems (e.g., Git) and documentation platforms.

Platform Knowledge

  • Understanding of Atlassian plugin administration and licensing.
  • Experience with Atlassian Assets / Insight or similar asset management tools.
  • Experience integrating Atlassian tools with Single Sign-On solutions (SAML or similar).
  • Familiarity with IT service management practices and ITIL concepts.
  • Experience working with IT monitoring or enterprise operations tools.

Education & Certifications

  • Trade school or formal training in Jira administration, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Preferred certifications may include:
    • ITIL
    • Security+
    • Atlassian Certified Professional (ACP)
    • Jira Service Management or Confluence certifications
