Aceli Africa is a market catalyst that aims to mobilize $2 billion in private-sector lending for agricultural SMEs and improve livelihoods for 5 million farmers and workers by 2030. To achieve this goal, Aceli provides financial incentives to increase the risk appetite of 50 financial institutions to make loans ranging from USD $10K-$1.5M for high-impact agricultural SMEs. Complementary technical assistance builds capacity for lenders and SMEs while data and learning drive engagement with partners to strengthen the policy and regulatory environment.
Since launching in 2020, Aceli has mobilized $350M in lending to SMEs, providing market access for 1.7M smallholder farmers across Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. Financial incentives have been designed based on an original dataset detailing the profitability of agri-SME lending across $5 billion in transactions.
To date, Aceli Africa has secured US$100M in funding commitments from leading bilateral and philanthropic donors, including the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gates Foundation, Global Affairs Canada, IKEA Foundation, Norad, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Aceli is raising a new round of funding to scale up its work over the next five years.
Job DescriptionLiaise with lenders on lending activity, supporting loan registration and loan reporting activities
Support in compiling inputs for program reports to ensure timely and accurate reporting of program activities
Support the country team in managing relationships with different Agri-finance ecosystem partners such as Technical Assistance providers, learning partners, among others
Support coordination and execution of evidence building, impact and learning activities in the country, such as financial benchmarking/analysis, impact surveys, field monitoring visits, documentation of impact stories, C&E verification visits
Support preparation of field visits of donors, team members and other stakeholders to SMEs and other partners
Track office expenses and liaise with finance team on payments and reconciliation
Support with logistics and administrative tasks required for Aceli convenings and events
Support implementation of other key priorities in close coordination with Country Manager Tanzania and the entire Aceli Africa Team
Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, natural sciences, or a business related field
Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in international development, non-profit or NGO, Agri-enterprise, banking, or financial inclusion
Strong coordination and organizational skills
Demonstrated experience in analysis (should be able to use spreadsheets such as excel for analysis)
Good communication skills and the ability to present information, both in writing and verbally, in a structured and insightful manner
Proactive individual who can work independently and collaboratively with a multi country team in a dynamic environment
A track record of high integrity and ethical conduct; and
Passion for applying one’s efforts to a positive impact work. A desire to serve others in the community such as work in financial inclusion, youth and women development, economic development etc.
