About this role
BlackRock’s Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions (MASS) team is the investment group at the heart of BlackRock's portfolio construction, asset allocation, and active management ecosystem. MASS draws on the full toolkit of index, factor, alpha-seeking and private market investment capabilities to deliver detailed investment outcomes and innovative alpha insights. Our team of 500+ multi-asset investment professionals construct asset allocation strategies and whole portfolio solutions across a wide spectrum of commingled funds, separate accounts, model portfolios, and outsourcing solutions in the wealth and institutional channels. Currently, MASS handles over $1 trillion in assets and has a strong presence in the Americas, EMEA and throughout Asia Pacific including Australasia.
Within MASS, the Whole Portfolio Solutions team designs and manages bespoke multi asset solutions for institutional and wealth clients. The Solutions Investment Strategist, based in Sydney is responsible for investment research, portfolio construction and design of investment portfolios for Australasian solutions clients, working in conjunction with the Solutions Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and Portfolio Managers in the Multi-Asset team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with solutions clients to understand the nature of the client’s investment problem and their objectives
- Assist the Solutions CIO with designing investment solutions that meet the client’s needs including construction of strategic asset allocations, portfolio optimisation, strategy selection (active/index/factors/private markets) and supporting data & analysis
- Preparation of client presentation materials and RFP responses which detail the proposed solution and attend client meetings to present the content and answer questions
- Oversee day-to-day client engagement (i.e. delivering investment and market updates, responding to client requests, training and education)
- Deliver client presentations based on new insights in portfolio construction risk management & macro outlooks and/or compose articles and white papers on relevant investment topics of interest
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the full suite of solutions offered by MASS and the products managed by other investment areas within BlackRock
- Maintain and develop insights about broader themes, trends, and competitive landscape within the relevant client segments
- Develop and grow strong partnerships with key business stakeholders that facilitate and support the solutions business within the firm
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification, with a strong record of academic achievement
- Minimum 2 years of experience in asset management, preferably with exposure across multiple asset classes and investment subject areas
- Demonstrated experience in asset management, investment consulting, or investment banking environments
- Strong familiarity with a broad range of investment strategies and multi‑asset investment concepts, including strategic and tactical asset allocation, factor investing, active investing, fundamental and systematic investment styles, alternatives, private markets, and risk management
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Proven technology and coding skills (Python, R, SQL etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and adapt communication style as needed
- Ability to distill and present sophisticated concepts in a clear, simple, and compelling manner
- High self-motivation, ownership and initiative while being a strong team player
- Well‑developed organizational and project management skills
- High degree of intellectual curiosity; ardent “student of the markets”
