Position Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to Senior Director of HNW Underwriting to deliver excellency in HNW Underwriting operations.
  • Manage all aspects of underwriting process (medical, financial, compliance and regulatory assessment) within your delegated authority and service level agreements.
  • Select and classify risks according to company philosophy, standards and risk framework.
  • Maintain underwriting consistency in line with internal underwriting guidelines.
  • Contribute to the continuing training and development of more junior underwriters.
  • Ability to adapt to changing underwriting philosophy and apply new approaches.
  • Strong independent problem solving ability including research and presentation of potential solutions.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the field and head office colleagues to provide the highest quality and service levels to customers.
  • Maintain positive and effective relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Consistently make competitive offers without compromising overall underwriting policies or mortality experience.
  • Effectively manage and coordinate processes to expedite turnaround time to achieve NBUW targets.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support other duties as assigned, including but not limited to participation in products development, initiatives focus on processes / procedures / practices enhancements etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent qualifications with minimum 7 years of underwriting experience.
  • Applicable underwriting and insurance designations preferred.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of medical, non-medical and financial underwriting principles and practices.
  • Expert knowledge of company’s insurance product portfolio and market practices.
  • Expert knowledge of reinsurance treaties, agreements and available capacity.
  • Exceptional priority management with ability to work effectively under deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving skills and presentation skills desirable.
  • Excellent team player with high level of ownership and accountability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in customer service orientation.
  • Actively assist field personnel in positioning the Company as the lead underwriter in the market.
  • Strong capability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all field personnel and reinsurers.
  • Proficiency in Cantonese, written and spoken English. Mandarin would be a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
