Overview:
Employment Counsel - the attorney will have primary regional responsibility for all employment and labour matters related to employees in the INDIA and APAC region workplace. This position is responsible for providing daily legal advice and counsel to internal stakeholders (at all levels) on the full range of matters pertaining to labour and employment law and legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary in-house legal counsel on all labour and employment matters which may include, but are not limited to, human resource issues, workers’ compensation, labour relations, employee benefits, employment agreements, and policies for employees located in the APAC and INDIA regions.
- Support HR and business leadership on employee relations and workforce restructuring matters in the APAC and INDIA regions.
- Actively participate in the development and implementation of employment strategies for the business and the wider RTX organization.
- Support collective bargaining and union negotiations.
- Support the organization in discussions with labour unions and worker representatives.
- Handle labour disputes, disciplinary actions, domestic enquiries and grievance management.
- Ensure compliance with applicable labour laws, factory regulations, standing orders and statutory requirements.
- Partner with internal customers (HR and business leaders) in region to appropriately handle all employment situations, identify opportunities, assess risk, and offer practical recommendations and approaches to provide solutions.
- When necessary, supervise, manage, and evaluate outside counsel on employment related matters, including litigation.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
- Ability to manage large caseloads appropriately and manage priorities accordingly with minimal supervision.
- Ability to build relationships with the business and all key stakeholders.
Essential Qualifications:
- Law degree (LLB/LLM preferred) with 12 + years of experience- Applicants must be an India-qualified lawyer.
- Thorough understanding of Indian labour and employment laws and working knowledge of employment laws in Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
- Significant experience as an Employment/Labour Lawyer in a manufacturing or industrial set up will be an added advantage.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating with labour unions and managing collective bargaining agreements.
- Strong knowledge of Indian and APAC labour laws, Industrial Code, Factories Act and related regulations.
- Ability to travel at short notice.
- Kannada speaking ability.
- Experience working with large manufacturing plants.
- Experience in a complex, matrixed organization with an international footprint.
