JOB SUMMARY 

The Associate Director, Corporate Communications will play a key role in executing GeneDx’s external communications strategy and strengthening the company’s visibility and reputation with media, healthcare stakeholders and other key audiences. 

Reporting to the Senior Director of Corporate Communications, this individual will be a hands-on member of the team responsible for driving day-to-day media relations, proactive storytelling, executive thought leadership, patient storytelling, agency coordination and communications project management. 

The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and highly organized, proactive communications professional who loves getting into the details and moving work forward. This individual will need to quickly develop a strong understanding of GeneDx’s business, identify compelling stories and translate complex scientific, clinical and business topics into clear, engaging narratives. 

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES 

  • Execute GeneDx’s corporate communications and earned media strategy, ensuring communications activity supports the company’s strategic priorities and evolving business objectives. 
  • Manage day-to-day media relations, including developing story ideas, identifying target reporters, conducting proactive outreach, coordinating inbound requests and building relationships with priority healthcare, business, technology and financial media. 
  • Partner with internal teams and GeneDx’s external communications agency to identify opportunities to leverage the company’s differentiated clinical and genomic data to generate proactive media coverage. 
  • Monitor daily media coverage, industry news, competitor activity and relevant healthcare, technology and policy developments. Proactively identify opportunities for GeneDx to engage through earned media, executive social media, rapid response, thought leadership and other channels. 
  • Manage GeneDx’s ongoing executive thought leadership commitments, including identifying topics, drafting content, coordinating internal reviews and managing external editorial processes through publication. 
  • Draft executive communications and thought leadership content that captures each leader’s individual tone and voice while advancing GeneDx’s broader corporate narrative. 
  • Develop media briefing materials, talking points, anticipated Q&A and background materials to prepare executives for interviews and external engagements. 
  • Partner cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Commercial, Investor Relations, Legal, People, Product and other teams to identify stories, gather information and ensure communications are accurate and strategically aligned. 
  • Consistently bring forward proactive ideas and recommendations for strengthening GeneDx’s reputation, visibility and leadership position.

EDUCATION/TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills. 
  • Strong understanding of media relations and corporate communications. 
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling content for different audiences. 
  • Excellent project management, organizational and attention-to-detail skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders and deadlines in a fast-moving environment. 
  • Strong communications judgment and intellectual curiosity. 

Preferred: 

  • Experience using AI/LLM tools to support communications research, content development and workflow efficiency. 
  • Familiarity with healthcare, biotechnology, genomics, diagnostics or precision medicine. 
  • Experience translating scientific, clinical or technical concepts for broader audiences. 

EXPERIENCE 

  • 5–7+ years in science, biotech, healthcare, or technology communications  
  • Proven ability to translate scientific and data-driven concepts into compelling narratives  
  • Experience supporting executive platforms in biotech, pharma, or life sciences  
  • Strong understanding of innovation ecosystems, R&D cycles, and investment narratives  
  • Outstanding writing and strategic messaging skills  
  • Collaborative, curious, and energized by science-led storytelling and industry partnership narratives  
  • Experience with innovative communication strategies across multi-media landscape   
  • Experience working with journalists and successfully building relationships   
  • Demonstrated self-starter with a hands-on mindset – able to roll up your sleeves, navigate shifting priorities, and drive work forward in a fast-moving, high-growth environment
