Associate Data Leader – Australia & New Zealand

The Role:
We seek an enthusiastic, results-driven Associate Data Leader based in Sydney. Reporting to the Director, Data Consultants – APAC, you will manage a team of Data Consultants to further develop robust relationships with data providers (asset managers, third parties, custodians, administrators). Morningstar’s managed investment database, comprising data and analytics for 700k+ global mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, closed-end funds, model portfolios, and separately managed accounts, is the foundation for Morningstar’s global research and products.
This position is an integral part of the Managed Investment Data leadership team. You will operate as a data leader ensuring the successful onboarding of new and complex data sets as well as contribute to our strategic business initiatives. You will continuously develop our people to drive the growth of our talent, content, and operational productivity.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage a team of Data Consultants by establishing their objectives and goals, providing regular feedback, and developing their knowledge and skills
- Manage relationships with key asset managers, superannuation and Model/SMA providers and platforms. Visit data providers to establish acquisition channels and act as a point of escalation when those channels fail.
- Partner with and guide Business Development, Product, Sales, and Marketing by providing data expertise and the voice of Managed Investment Data
- Monitor competitor behaviour, trends, and services to ensure Morningstar is well placed to act on any opportunities that may arise
- Collaborate with a global team of operational leaders, subject matter experts, and business leaders to ensure alignment and support our key initiatives
- Act as a unifier who brings together Australia & New Zealand stakeholders and team members with disparate viewpoints
- Evangelize Managed Investment Data both internally and externally
- Guide team members to develop competencies, identify training opportunities, and actively communicate with the team to support talent development
- Contribute to an organised, motivating, and collaborative team environment
Requirements:
- Preferably, experience successfully leading a multi-location team
- Thought leadership in leading the transformation of business operations and workforce
- Strong financial knowledge and a solid understanding of the asset management industry and competitive landscape
- Demonstrated ability to foster successful external relationships with asset managers, regulator and third-party data providers
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across regions and functional teams
- Proven ability to take a client-centric approach
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience
- Expertise in Morningstar data, methodology, quality, and processes
- Must have unlimited working rights in Australia- this role is not open to candidates on student visas with an expiry date.
