Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. Occasional evening and weekend work as needed.

Location:

This position is 100% in-person, located primarily at 1560 Berger Drive, San Jose, CA 95112. Some presence may be required at our other location at 2650 Senter Road.

Travel:

Local travel may be required up to 20% of the time.

 

About the San Jose Conservation Corps (SJCC+CS):

One of the first urban Conservation Corps in the country, the San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School (SJCC+CS) was founded in 1987 to empower young adults aged 18 to 27 ("Corpsmembers") to upskill themselves and advance their career in conservation and green spaces. Today, SJCC+CS continues to operate its 1-year-long paid workforce development program, while also functioning as a WASC-accredited charter high school, allowing those who have aged out of the traditional education system to earn their high school diploma.

Position Summary:

The Communications and Marketing Associate position is an opportunity for someone trying to build a career in digital marketing, social media, advertising, journalism, content creation, photography, and/or videography. The Associate will support all of the company's various social media accounts, websites, newsletters, and external communication. They will be in a position to have creative freedom within the Marketing team to perform tasks independently as well as collaborative group projects and campaigns. Beyond working with the Marketing Team, the Associate will work directly with staff across all departments of the organization. The goal is to tell the organization's story, motivate young adults to join our program, build partnerships, and inspire community members to volunteer or donate.


Job Duties:

Responsible to

  • Create and launch social media campaigns
  • Create weekly and monthly calendars to promote company brands across various social media platforms (Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Publish written content such as blogs, website copy, and formal email communications
  • Perform routine website edits, page design, and maintenance
  • Create graphic designs such as flyers, infographics, photos, event materials, etc.
  • Create and send an external monthly newsletter
  • Track social media performance and engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability
  • Gather pictures and videos of all departments and divisions at various work sites and events
  • Create captivating stories to motivate future corpsmembers and donors
  • Conduct interviews and testimonials from program participants and partners
  • Maintain and contribute to the SJCC+CS media library
  • Lead and support Corpsmember Content Creator's creative direction, assignments, submissions, and content collection
  • Meet and collaborate with department heads to support department marketing needs
  • Track and submit monthly and quarterly marketing analytics reports

Support

  • Support the Community Impact team at in-person and online events
  • Conduct regular digital engagement with relevant partners
  • Contribute to an annual marketing strategy
  • Support all department's marketing and content needs to ensure the success of the organization

Work Environment & Requirements

Position may require prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires far and near vision when reading and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The nature of the work may require the incumbent to work outdoors, work at heights, lift, carry and push equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds and work evenings, weekends and holidays. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.

 

Equipment Used: Desktop computer, laptop computer, keyboard, mouse, cellular phone, handheld (wired) phone, personal vehicle or company vehicle (sedan), photography and videography equipment such as cameras, speakers, projectors, and other equipment related to production and event setup.

Employment At-Will

The San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School is an “At-Will” employer. This means that employment with SJCC+CS is voluntarily entered into and staff members are free to resign at any time.  Similarly, SJCC+CS may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or prior notice, as it deems appropriate.   This at-will employment relationship can be changed only in a written agreement signed by the staff member and the Executive Director of SJCC+CS.

 

**SJCC+CS IS A MANDATORY COVID-19 VACCINATION EMPLOYER**

All new hires will be required to provide proof of vaccination absent an approved medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. If a new hire is in the process of being vaccinated, their start date may be adjusted to a future date after they have been vaccinated.  Fully vaccinated means that it has been at least two weeks since the person has completed the entire recommended initial series of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school Diploma or GED
  • Strong, clear written and verbal skills
  • Interpersonal & Relationship Building: High emotional intelligence, warmth, and the ability to make corpsmembers and participants feel comfortable opening up during on-camera interviews.
  • Tech Literacy & Adaptability: Basic familiarity with major social platforms and a fast learning curve for new tech tools.
  • Creative Eye & Storytelling Instinct: A natural artistic sensibility for framing a shot, spotting a good story, and understanding what visually engages an audience.
  • Mastery of the major social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok
  • Knowledge of social media analytics software, including Facebook Insights, Google Analytics, and Twitter Analytics, to track audience engagement and campaign performance
  • Experience with content management systems, customer relationship management software, word processor applications, and/or image/video editing software (Adobe Creative Cloud, Mailchimp, Final Cut Pro, Canva, Google Suite)
  • Experience with content creation, photography, and videography including photo and video editing
  • Ability to work independently and in teams in order to achieve goals; establish and maintain good relationships with Corpsmembers, SJCC+CS Leadership, and many external partners

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Camera System Experience: Experience operating professional camera equipment
  • Mastery of Professional Editing Suite (Adobe Premiere/Final Cut). Intermediate skills or experience with user-friendly tools (Canva, CapCut) are plenty for day one; advanced editing can be developed over time.
  • Advanced Analytics & Reporting: Ability to pull and analyze raw metrics from social platforms 
  • Prior Non-Profit / Youth Engagement Work: Prior exposure to non-profit, environmental, or youth development organizations.

 

If the position is offered and accepted, candidates must satisfy the following prescreening items prior to starting work:

 

Driving Record and Requirements: This position requires independent travel between field work sites, community events, and the social enterprise locations. If the position is offered and accepted, candidates must submit a copy of their DMV driver’s record. The candidate also must possess and continue to maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and a clean driving record.

 

Employment Eligibility: Federal law requires all employees to provide verification of their eligibility to work in the United States. Please be informed that San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School will NOT sponsor, represent, or sign any documents related to visa applications/transfers for H1-B or any other type of visa which requires an employer application.

 

Medical Verification: California law requires school staff to show proof of being free from infectious tuberculosis (TB) before hire. Candidates must provide verification of a negative TB test or completed TB questionnaire within the past year, or a chest X‑ray if applicable. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is also required.

 

Background Check and Fingerprinting: All candidates must complete Live Scan fingerprinting and pass a state and federal criminal background check.


Drug Screen: Candidates must undergo and successfully pass a pre‑employment 5‑panel drug test.
