What is the Opportunity?
Position summary
Reporting to the VP Business Risk – Operational Risk – RBC Clear, the employee will be responsible for identifying, designing controls to mitigate operational risk. Operational risk is the risk associated with our people, processes, systems not doing what they should. Controls could be system enhancements, process, policy and procedure enhancements. This role will partner with 2LOD, Business Client Services, RBC Clear Operations and our product teams to understand our product, system landscape, the operational rules and regulations we must adhere to and our operational processes. .
What will you do?
- Review controls proposed by product, technical and operational teams and identify gaps.
- Identify controls that should be implemented to mitigate risk in our systems and processes.
- Write control statements identifying the What, Who, When, How and Why and update them in RBC’s control system ERIC.
- Identify key operational controls and participate in Internal Control Monitoring (ICM) adhering to RBC’s policy.
- Support the Risk ID program and participate in all required risk assessments (Integrated Risk Profile, Risk & Control Self-Assessment, Harm Assessment etc.)
- Monitor RBC Clear operational processes to ensure controls are working adequately - assist with the coordination of incident mitigation and take responsibility for ensuring appropriate and clear documentation of incidents and associated actions in the Operational Risk System.
- Support the oversight and challenge of 1LOD’s execution of Internal Operational Risk Events and related Root Cause Analysis.
- Record evidence of 2LOD oversight and challenge on the Operational Risk Management System (ORMS).
- Work collaboratively to design and compile reporting and dashboards, in partnership with 2nd Line of Defense, and anchor with the appropriate team.
What do you need to succeed?
- Requirements
- 1-2 year’s experience identifying, designing and documenting 1LOD operational controls.
- 1-2 years experience creating process maps and operational procedures
- Strong understanding of RBC’s enterprise risk pyramid, risk pillars and tools
- Ability to draw connections between risk requirements and operational policies and procedures, anticipating impediments and identifying mitigants.
- Ability to both grasp big picture and have rigorous attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to influence a diverse group of stakeholders and demonstrate strong collaboration skills across the organization.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a results-oriented mindset
- Strong organization skills and not easily overwhelmed
- Must haves
- 1-2 year’s experience in a 1LOD or 2LOD operational risk role in transactional banking, cash management at a North American FI
