What you’ll be doing

The Capital Markets arm of CIBC serves corporate, government, and institutional clients with innovative solutions and value-added services. From actionable ideas to highly tailored financing solutions, M&A advice, and a strong line-up of capital markets and treasury services, CIBC Capital Markets provides the capabilities clients need to capitalize on opportunities and manage risk.

As the Associate, Business Management, Global Markets, you’ll be responsible for contributing to the Business Management function, with responsibility to supporting day-to-day business activities in Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities (FICC), Global Markets Financing (GMF) and Financial Resource Management (FRM) businesses. This includes partnering closely with the Business Managers to support strategy execution, enhance business performance, strengthen governance, and drive operational excellence.

This role is ideal for a dynamic professional with Capital Markets experience who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and is comfortable supporting new initiatives, board-level presentations, financial management, vendor management, and day-to-day business execution.

You will be accessible to the business throughout the day to actively respond to information requirements and requests, resolve issues as they arise, and support initiatives that impact the firm’s top and bottom lines. You will help ensure business priorities are effectively executed and communicated.

How you’ll succeed

  • Business Strategy & Execution - You will contribute to the execution of strategic and business management priorities across Global Markets Financing & Financial Resource Management (GMF & FRM) and Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities (FICC) by partnering with the Business Managers. You will assist in business initiatives, maintain project plans, and support Change Initiative Risk Assessments (CIRAs). You will help the Business Managers prepare leadership presentations, respond to ad-hoc business requests and support the coordination of activities across multiple stakeholders, under the direction of the Business Manager, to ensure priorities are executed effectively. You will be accessible to the business throughout the day to actively respond to ad-hoc information requirements, requests, projects and resolve day-to-day issues.

  • Governance, Risk & Compliance - You will support the coordination of governance, risk, and control activities across GMF & FRM and FICC. This includes assisting with governance inventories, user access reviews, contract management, business-managed technology activities, audits and other regulatory requirements. You will contribute to a strong control environment by helping identify process improvement opportunities, documenting issues and incidents, and ensuring governance activities are completed accurately and on time.

  • Financial Management & Business Performance - You will support financial management and business performance activities by assisting with expense tracking, invoice allocations and approvals, as well as management reporting. Partnering with Finance, Procurement, Technology, and business stakeholders, you will prepare reporting that supports effective business decisions. You will contribute to financial presentations, reporting packages, and ad hoc analyses while supporting a wide range of business management initiatives across the GMF & FRM and FICC platforms.

  • Stakeholder & Business Support - You will build strong working relationships across GMF & FRM, FICC, and the Capital Markets CAO team. Acting as a key coordination point, you will help facilitate communication, organize meetings, track actions and deliverables, and ensure the Business Manager is aware of current project timelines. You will support the Business Managers by bringing structure, organization, and accountability to ongoing business priorities.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience and knowledge. Of Capital Markets (products and processes) with a minimum of 2 years of work experience in capital markets or a corporate development function.

  • You have an undergraduate degree. MBA/CFA/CA is an asset.

  • You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information. You can communicate detailed information in a meaningful way.

  • You’re digitally savvy. You embrace innovative solutions and evolving technologies, including AI tools, and adapt quickly to new trends. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Advanced Excel capabilities is an asset.

  • You’re goal oriented. You’re motivated by accomplishing your goals and delivering your best to make a difference. You have the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple complex priorities.
