Tokio Marine HCC – Surety Group, a member of the Tokio Marine Group of Companies, has an opportunity for Associate Bond Claims Attorney at our Santa Ana, CA branch office.
Job Summary
Determines the validity of simple to moderately complex bond claims.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze legal pleadings, documents, and applicable statutes to determine validity of bond claims.
- Communicate with agents, principals, claimants, and other attorneys both orally and in writing concerning claim status, information requests, payment/denial of claim, or related information.
- Evaluate and minimize company risk of loss; Analyze subrogation efforts.
- Prepare and send claim status correspondence to affected parties using mail, fax, or other electronic means. Maintain claim files - both physical and electronic. Update files as needed.
- Limited authority to approve and deny claims. None to limited authority to approve loss and Loss Adjuster Expenses (LAE) payments.
- Attend court hearings including mediations, settlement conferences, and trials.
- Perform legal research and other miscellaneous legal matters.

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements
- Minimum Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) degree or a related field or the equivalent education and/or experience2 Years Relevant and progressive professional experience
- Up to two years of relevant and progressive Legal experience in insurance claims
- Possess and have ability to apply basic knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures
- Good written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
- Good organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to
- applicable area of the Company’s business to proactively respond to changing business
- environment
- Proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
For candidates working in person in Santa Ana, the reasonable pay range for this specific position is $87,400 to $ 131,000. The salary offered for this specific position is based on a number of legitimate, non-discriminatory factors set by the Company.
