Associate HR Governance & Digital Process Specialist (Associate HR Power BI Developer)
Job Overview:
The Associate HR Power BI Developer is responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting enterprise HR reporting and analytics solutions using Microsoft Power BI and related Microsoft data technologies.
Reporting to the Manager, HRIS, the role partners with HR Centers of Excellence, HR stakeholders, and other members of the HRIS Reporting & Analytics team to translate business requirements into accurate, intuitive, scalable, and well-governed reporting solutions.
The position is primarily a hands-on Power BI development role, responsible for dashboard and report development, data transformation, semantic modeling, visualization, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. The developer will work within established HR reporting standards and architecture while progressively developing capabilities in Microsoft Fabric and modern data engineering practices.
The role supports the organization's continued transition from traditional Power BI reporting toward a more scalable Microsoft Fabric-based HR data and analytics architecture. As the team's capabilities mature, the developer will increasingly contribute to reusable data products, standardized semantic models, and modernized reporting solutions.
The position may also support broader HR digital solutions using Microsoft Power Platform technologies, including Power Apps and Power Automate, based on evolving team and business needs. Prior exposure to these tools is a plus, not a requirement.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Power BI Development
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports supporting global HR functions.
- Translate business and reporting requirements into effective data models, calculations, visualizations, and user experiences.
- Develop reusable DAX measures and calculations using appropriate Power BI development practices.
- Develop and maintain Power Query transformations for data cleansing, preparation, and integration.
- Create intuitive dashboard experiences using appropriate navigation, filtering, drill-through, tooltips, and visualization techniques.
- Maintain and enhance existing HR reporting solutions based on evolving business requirements.
Data Modeling & Integration
- Develop and maintain Power BI semantic models using established dimensional modeling and star-schema principles.
- Integrate data from approved HR data sources and enterprise reporting platforms.
- Perform data validation and reconciliation to ensure reporting outputs align with approved source data and business definitions.
- Identify data quality, transformation, or modeling issues and work with appropriate team members to resolve them.
- Support implementation and maintenance of Row-Level Security (RLS) and established HR data-access controls.
Microsoft Fabric & Data Products
- Participate in the modernization and migration of HR reporting solutions into the organization's Microsoft Fabric architecture.
- Develop capabilities in Dataflows Gen2, Lakehouse, Warehouse, pipelines, and Fabric semantic models.
- Contribute to reusable and governed HR data products that can support multiple dashboards and analytical use cases.
- Support established Bronze, Silver, and reporting/semantic-layer architecture and development standards.
- Assist with improving data refresh, transformation, and reporting processes to reduce manual effort and improve scalability.
Dashboard Delivery & Support
- Perform testing and quality assurance before deploying reporting solutions.
- Troubleshoot dashboard, semantic model, transformation, refresh, security, and performance issues.
- Support production dashboards and respond to enhancement and issue requests according to established priorities and service expectations.
- Monitor and improve report usability and performance.
- Maintain appropriate technical documentation covering data sources, transformations, business logic, measures, security rules, and reporting solutions.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Support
- Partner with HR Centers of Excellence and other HR stakeholders to understand reporting requirements.
- Translate functional requirements into practical technical reporting solutions.
- Collaborate with other HRIS Reporting & Analytics team members on shared data models, standards, and reporting solutions.
- Communicate development progress, risks, dependencies, and technical constraints clearly.
- Participate in requirement discussions, solution reviews, testing, and stakeholder demonstrations.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to simplify reporting processes, improve performance, and reduce manual reporting effort.
- Contribute to common development standards, reusable components, and reporting best practices.
- Continuously develop capabilities in Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, data modeling, and emerging analytics technologies.
- Support the team's transition toward scalable, governed, and AI-ready HR data and analytics solutions.
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Relevant technical certifications or equivalent practical experience may be considered.
- 1-3 years of experience in Power BI development, Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, reporting, or a related discipline.
- Hands-on experience developing Power BI reports and dashboards.
- Experience transforming and integrating data from multiple sources.
- Experience working with business stakeholders to understand and translate reporting requirements.
- Experience testing and validating reporting outputs for accuracy.
