What you'll be doing...

This position will manage a team with various responsibilities for supporting Global Operations. This position will act as the lead subject matter expert on new initiatives and projects across the transportation team for Devices, Network, Value and International logistics. This role will support scoping initiatives and the build out of business cases to hand off the implementation to the operations teams.

This position will evaluate the current transportation model and identify strategies that will decrease costs while meeting service level commitments. You will lead a team responsible for the analysis of cost containment initiatives and process improvements across our transportation network while considering the impact on inventory planning, warehouse operations, inbound receiving and end customers. You will need to lead cross functional matrix teams while implementing new projects. This team will offer project support as well as oversight over all of transportation dashboarding and reporting maintenance

This team will directly manage our 3rd party freight auditor who audits $400M worth of transportation spend over multiple modes of transportation including small parcels, less than truckload and truckload. This oversight directly transcends into management over all of our Domestic Transportation budgets and accruals . 

This position will act as the lead subject matter expert on new initiatives and projects across the transportation team for Devices, Network, Value and International logistics.   • Liaise with internal and external parties, as it relates to Transportation.

  • Monitoring, analyzing and reporting on Key Performance Indicators.

  • Establishing and maintaining reporting accuracy, consistency, and creation/distribution of scorecards, dashboards, and reports, as appropriate.

  • Producing and delivering reports to senior management to track productivity, quality and efficiency of carriers.

  • Leading and executing upon strategic initiatives for VZ Supply Chain.

  • Evaluating current transportation models and identifying and implementing strategies that will decrease costs while meeting service level commitments.

  • Managing cross-functional working teams to effectively execute upon project plans.

  • Developing strategies to improve transportation cost and performance with VZ legal requirements.

  • Driving tactical transportation cost containment initiatives.

  • Leading the analysis and implementation of cost containment initiatives and process improvements across our transportation network while considering the impact on inventory planning, warehouse operations, inbound receiving and consignee receiving.

  • Leading project teams to drive changes to VZ's transportation infrastructure that will enable world class transportation efficiencies.

  • Designing business processes to improve current processes.

  • Interfacing with Global Supply Chain IT to identify and drive system enhancements.

  • Acting as subject matter expert for communication with cross-functional teams enabling initiatives that impact transportation operations.

  • Managing vendor implementation of new technology and process improvements.

  • Working closely with our Finance business partners to correlate current changes in our contractual rates to the impacts to our financials.

What we're looking for…

You'll need to have:

  • Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Experience managing transportation operations.

  • Experience identifying trends in data.

  • Experience managing a team. 

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business.

  • Masters degree in Supply Chain or a related field.

  • Strong technical experience with Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Analytical skills and ability to identify trends in data.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and make sound business decisions.

  • Well organized, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks.

  • Ability to prioritize projects, establish realistic timelines/milestones and achieve results.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact professionally and effectively with all levels of management including senior leaders.

  • Strong relationship management including peers, executives, internal/external customers, third party vendors, and various stakeholders.

  • Ability to produce accurate and timely information in a highly dynamic work environment with a strong Customer Focus mindset.
