Position Summary:

The Florida Atlantic University School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) invites applications for a tenure-line assistant or associate professor position starting Fall 2025 on the Boca Raton campus. While all substantive areas of expertise will be considered, we are particularly interested in applicants whose research agenda is (a) informed by emerging technologies in criminology and criminal justice (e.g., artificial intelligence, social network analysis, virtual reality) that ensure security, privacy, and the protection of civil rights; improve safety and community relations; and/or foster innovation in research and practice, or (b) crosses disciplinary boundaries (e.g., neuroscience, public health, psychology, genetics, education, public policy) to develop integrated knowledge for advancing research and addressing societal challenges.

The position is a full-time, 9-month appointment that begins August 4, 2025. Faculty are expected to teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs and across multiple modalities, including fully online courses. The current teaching load is 3:2, though pre-tenure assistant professors receive release time to establish their research program. Teaching over the summer is available for additional compensation. Review of applications will begin October 21, 2024.

Florida Atlantic is a Carnegie doctorate-granting university (RU/high research activity) with over 30,000 students and is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution by the U.S. Department of Education. Florida Atlantic’s strategic plan prioritizes healthy aging, neuroscience, environmental science, and sensing and smart systems. These priorities are supported by faculty research in areas that also address leadership, global perspectives and participation, community engagement, undergraduate research, big data analytics, healthy and sustainable campus environments, and peace, justice, and human rights. Within each of the priorities, Florida Atlantic is committed to the principles of engaged research, teaching, and service. Florida Atlantic is positioned to achieve the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education’s highest and most coveted Very High Research Activity status (R1) in 2025.

The College of Social Work and Criminal Justice is a partnership between the SCCJ and the Sandler School of Social Work. Our intention is to reimagine our professions, promote multidisciplinary education and research, address a wider spectrum of societal needs, and champion systemic change through scholarship, teaching, and service.
