Our client from a logistics company is seeking a technically skilled and hands-on Assistant Workshop Manager to support and coordinate workshop operations for a fleet of fuel tankers and flatbeds serving both local and cross-border routes. The ideal candidate will bring strong mechanical expertise, effective team leadership, and solid experience using ERP systems and Excel for maintenance tracking. This role demands high flexibility, including the ability to work shifts and respond to emergency breakdowns at any hour.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workshop environment.
- Manage and update maintenance records using ERP systems and Excel, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Schedule services, open/close job cards, and track spare part usage through maintenance software.
- Prepare and submit reports and maintenance KPIs for management review.
- Coordinate with the stores team on parts requisitions, usage monitoring, and critical stock availability.
- Ensure fleet compliance with regulatory standards (LATRA, TRA, TBS, EWURA) and oversee road worthiness checks.
- Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns during or after hours, including coordinating cross-border repair support.
- Work flexible rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, and remain on-call for urgent repairs.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience with heavy-duty vehicle maintenance, preferably fuel tankers and flatbeds.
- Strong experience with diesel engines, air brake systems, tanker safety components, and trailer systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (maintenance tracking, pivot tables, reports).
- Experience using ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Fleetio, or other fleet management software).
- Familiarity with Tanzanian and regional transport and maintenance regulations.
