The Opportunity: 

The College of Aviation at the Prescott, Arizona, campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track faculty position in meteorology commencing January 2025 in support of our B. S. degrees in Applied Meteorology, Aeronautical Science, Aeronautics, Uncrewed Aircraft Systems, and Air Traffic Management.

Candidates with prior teaching experience and a broad background in meteorology are invited to apply. Applicants must be able to evidence a strong commitment to quality teaching. We especially encourage applications from candidates with experience in aviation or operational weather forecasting. 


The successful candidate will join a team of three Ph.D. meteorologists and will be expected to teach the equivalent of four 3-credit hour courses per semester at the undergraduate level. The candidate is encouraged to pursue research/scholarship and will mentor undergraduate research projects. Current research interests within the department include mesoscale meteorology, the North American Monsoon, cloud physics, synoptic-dynamical meteorology and optical/microwave satellite remote sensing.

One of the principal teaching responsibilities will be to instruct meteorology classes in support of our large and growing aviation programs, for which the candidate must be able to inspire students whose first love is not meteorology.

The successful candidate must also share the department's commitment to mentoring students on their course options and career pursuits, as well as service on university committees and in the larger community.

This is a nine-month position with the possibility of summer teaching for additional pay and/or externally funded research. 

The College of Aviation is the largest of four colleges at the Prescott Campus. The Applied Aviation Sciences Department is one of four departments within the College of Aviation, and houses three separate programs. The Bachelor of Science in Applied Meteorology (AM) prepares students for careers in meteorology, including weather forecasting, research, the military and aviation including dispatch. The program meets all the requirements for undergraduate study in meteorology recommended by the American Meteorological Society, the National Weather Service and the U.S. Air Force. The Bachelor of Science in Air Traffic Management (ATM) program is a hands-on degree program serving at the forefront of the industry, as students work with faculty and fellow students who have pioneered advancements in ATM technology. The Bachelor of Science in Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS)focuses on civilian operations with special emphasis placed on the business and security applications of UAS. This major gives students a broad overview of UAS operations, as well as the basic technical knowledge they need to be successful.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. degree in meteorology, atmospheric sciences or geospatial sciences is preferred.
