Datadog is looking for an experienced employment lawyer to join our growing Global Employment Team and lead the team responsible for counseling on employment law issues across the Americas region.  The successful candidate will join our small but mighty team of global employment attorneys and act as a trusted partner and advisor to the People Team, the business, and other key stakeholders across the company on all matters impacting our workforce and culture.  Reporting to Datadog’s Associate General Counsel - Employment, Litigation and Compliance, this role will focus on supporting the AMER region as we drive global consistency in our relationship with employees while ensuring compliance with applicable laws. but will provide support for global initiatives and projects as needed.

Who You Are:

  • Serve as the lead employment lawyer for the AMER region (US, Canada, and LATAM) by providing advice and day-to-day support for the People Team and key business stakeholders in all areas of employment law including recruiting and hiring, performance management, leaves of absences, accommodations, terminations, compensation, harassment, discrimination, internal investigations, restrictive covenants, and wage and hour issues
  • Keep current on developments in employment laws in region and assist in implementing compliance in partnership with the People Team and other business stakeholders
  • Support the development and rollout of templates, employment policies and procedures to ensure best practices and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Review and prepare customized trainings in various subject matters
  • Draft, revise, and advise on employee related documents including employment agreements and separation agreements
  • Provide support with regard to interpretation and enforcement of sales commission
  • plans
  • Actively support mergers and acquisitions activity and international expansion in region
  • Identify areas of risk and opportunity in the employment space and work in partnership with the People Team and other key stakeholders to establish policies and procedures to help drive compliance and manage risk
  • Collaborate with other teams within Legal and across the Datadog to support the successful execution of global projects and initiatives as needed
  • Manage AMER outside counsel, particularly outside the United States, as needed and in a cost-effective manner.

What You'll Do:

  • An experienced attorney with at least 10+ years handling U.S. employment law matters with at least 5+ of those years in-house at a multinational corporation
  • A JD from an accredited U.S. law school and are a member in good standing of a U.S. state bar (New York preferred)
  • Comfortable working in an international context, with experience supporting jurisdictions outside of the US including Canada, LATAM as well as some immigration and mobility experience
  • Experience supporting mergers and acquisition activity.
  • An excellent communicator and able to partner well with colleagues in Legal and HR as well as business stakeholders
  • Able to provide practical solutions and business-oriented advice on a wide array of complex employment law issues
  • Passionate about employment law and keep up to date on developments
  • Interested in working for a dynamic and agile technology business and excited to be part of a growing team
  • Prior people management experience
  • Entrepreneurial, organized and comfortable working autonomously in an ambiguous, quickly changing environment
  • Organized and efficient with your time and tasks
  • Someone with a good sense of humor who enjoys collaborating with colleagues and working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
