Role Summary

The Applied System Engineer is responsible for the engineering design and technical execution of equipment packages within the Site Order Engineering team. The role ensures that assigned order engineering activities are completed in accordance with customer specifications, applicable national and international standards, Flowserve internal procedures, quality requirements, cost targets, and delivery commitments.

This position develops complete engineering packages, including customer documentation, bills of material, manufacturing drawings, system calculations, design analyses, and test plans. The Applied System Engineer serves as a technical resource for customers and internal stakeholders throughout the order lifecycle, from proposal support through commissioning and warranty support.

This role reports to the Order Engineering Manager.

ResponsibilitiesProposal and Order Review
  • Support proposal activities by performing pre-engineering assessments, defining technical scope, estimating engineering labor requirements, conducting risk assessments, and completing equipment FLO selections outside of eCPQ when required.
  • Review order transfer files, customer specifications, contractual requirements, and project documentation to establish complete technical requirements.
  • Translate customer requirements into clear engineering project definitions, deliverables, and execution plans.
  • Support order change management by evaluating technical impacts, documentation changes, cost and schedule implications, and required approvals.
System Design and Engineering Execution
  • Perform system design activities, including routine engineering analyses, design calculations, simulations, and equipment package configuration.
  • Develop engineering design packages in accordance with customer specifications, applicable standards, and internal procedures.
  • Prepare, review, and release customer documents, bills of material, manufacturing drawings, job-specific calculations, and other required technical documentation.
  • Ensure the complete technical fulfillment of assigned job requirements.
  • Maintain engineering documentation that is accurate, complete, timely, and suitable for customer, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain use.
Customer and Cross-Functional Support
  • Serve as a primary technical interface for assigned customers and provide engineering support throughout project execution.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal functions to clarify customer requirements, project scope, specifications, and technical deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Project Management, Sales, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Service, and other internal stakeholders to support successful order execution.
  • Respond to customer technical questions, documentation comments, approval requirements, and engineering clarifications in a timely manner.
Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality Support
  • Provide technical support to Supply Chain through review of vendor, supplier, and buyout drawings.
  • Support Production by providing tactical engineering guidance related to specification deviations, waivers, manufacturing issues, and technical questions.
  • Review project quality plans to confirm alignment with contractual, customer, and internal quality requirements.
  • Support the resolution of non-conformance reports related to contract requirements, customer specifications, or engineering documentation.
Testing, Commissioning, and Warranty Support
  • Develop and support test plans for complete system packages.
  • Provide technical support for system testing, commissioning, start-up, and warranty activities as required.
  • Support investigation and resolution of technical issues identified during manufacturing, testing, commissioning, or warranty periods.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Deliver engineering documentation and technical deliverables in accordance with committed project schedules.
  • Achieve customer approval of engineering documentation at first issue whenever possible.
  • Ensure customer documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
  • Complete document rework, revisions, and resubmittals within agreed turnaround times to support timely customer approvals.
  • Provide timely and effective resolution of non-conformance reports associated with contract requirements or customer specifications.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction through responsive, accurate, and technically sound engineering support.
  • Meet required quality, cost, schedule, and technical performance objectives for assigned orders.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification; alternatively, five or more years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience using Computer-Aided Design and three-dimensional design tools.
  • Working knowledge of engineering documentation, drafting practices, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Ability to perform routine engineering analysis, design calculations, simulations, and technical evaluations.
  • Knowledge of engineering analysis tools and applicable technical standards.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including basic fluency in English.
  • Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work across functions and with customers.
  • Knowledge of project management tools, methods, and applications.
  • Demonstrated accountability and ability to execute work accurately, on time, and in accordance with specifications.
  • Basic proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office applications, and other relevant information technology tools.

Skills Required
