Salary: $59,038 per year

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE
Either:
a) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, and two (2) years of experience in design and/or installation of electrical systems and equipment; or
b) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) years of experience in design and/or installation of electrical systems and equipment; or
c) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of a) and b).

FURTHER POSITION DETAILS:

  • Thorough knowledge of construction specifications and of their application to public works

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and instruments used in engineering drafting

  • Through knowledge of mathematics and application to electrical engineering computation

  • Good knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical engineering

  • skill in the use of engineering instruments and equipment

  • Ability to perform difficult technical computations to make estimates and tests, and to compile engineering data and statistics

  • Ability to make difficult and technical engineering drawings

  • Ability to write technical engineering specifications

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and gain compliance with specifications in a tactful and impartial manner

  • Ability to supervise assistants in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors and the general public

  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

This Role Is A Provisional Appointment 

A provisional appointment, which occurs only in the competitive class, is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (federally-authorized/NY State registered) and two years' experience in design/installation of electrical systems and equipment

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of the listed options

  • Strong mathematics knowledge and ability to perform electrical engineering computations
