JOB SUMMARY 

Simmons University is looking for an Assistant Director to join the Undergraduate Advising team located within the Center for Student Success. Reporting to the Associate Director of Advising and Pre-Professional Programs within the Office of Undergraduate Advising. The Assistant Director will be responsible for managing the Barbara Lee Family Foundation Intern Fellowship Program which includes teaching a political science capstone course, oversee the Pre-Law program, assist with data/assessment gathering for the department, coordinating special events, create/maintain external partner relationship with Law Schools, supervise student peer advisors, and advise a caseload of undergraduates while also supporting alumni with an interest in Pre-Law. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  •  Collaborate with the Associate Director of Advising and Pre-Professional Programs to manage the Barbara Lee Family Fellowship internship program 

  • Maintain regular communication and collaborate with campus leadership and external partners regarding the Barbara Lee Family Fellowship 

  • Serve as the primary point-of-contact for pre-law advising and application process to students and alumnae/i, coordinate with law schools for on-campus and virtual info sessions 

  • Conduct a speaker series with a focus on women empowerment, women’s equality, political science, pre-law, leadership for social impact, legal ethics, global justice, and public policies 

  • Collaborate with Office of Career Development to provide resources around internships, resumes, and mock interviews to prepare pre-law application process, applying to graduate schools (EDGE), and to the Barbara Lee Fellowship 

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Law schools and graduate schools to invite to campus for tabling, conducting info sessions, as well as establish potential partnerships with conditional acceptances for Simmons students and alumni 

  • This role may have additional supervisory responsibilities of an advisor or coordinator as the program grows 

  • Manage and supervise the Simmons Academic Mentors (SAMs) undergraduate peer advisors 

  • Serve as the primary academic advisor for a caseload of undergraduate students 

  • Support the Office of Undergraduate Advising with drop-in advising, orientation, workshops/events, and promoting the usage of EABs Starfish early alert tool 

  • This is a student facing position and the role will be hybrid to be available to students in person and via Zoom.  

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Special projects as assigned 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master's degree in a related field preferred. 

  • At least two to three years of full-time professional experience working with students in an academic advising, career education, or students affairs department. 

  • Experience with prior program and event management is preferred 

  • Experience utilizing Starfish or similar early alert tools is a plus 

  • Prior experience supervising student or running a peer advising/mentor program preferred

  • Experience with Google Suite preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Hybrid eligibility, up to 2 days remote 

  • 12 months 

  • Hours 40 / week

  • Essential physical requirements, such as sitting, verbal communication, and typing.

  • Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary - up to 10 pounds; light - up to 20 pounds;

  • Work weekends and nights as needed for special events 

  • Travel requirements as needed for conferences

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws effective October 29, 2025, Simmons University is committed to pay equity, transparency and clear communication throughout the hiring process. The hourly or annual salary range for this position is:

S07$51,800.00 - $82,700.00

This is benefits eligible position.
