Our CAAS practice is looking for an Assistant Controller to join our growing Nonprofit Industry team, based out of the Peoria, IL office.
As a member of CLA’s CAAS practice, you will provide accounting services to CLA's nonprofit clients in the local city area and will be a key part of our client service teams. You will work directly with clients to provide customized accounting and finance services to support them as they grow their business.

What you'll be doing as an Assistant Controller:

Oversee staff accountant work and perform month-end close duties including complex account reconciliations and financial statement preparation

Analyze and interpret financial information that client leaders need to make sound business decisions.

Prepare financial reports for creditors, regulatory agencies, and tax authorities, and others.

Schedule expenditures, analyze variances, and identify corrective actions when necessary.

Independently prepare financial statements.

Maintain knowledge of client’s organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
Required Education/Experience/Abilities:

4 years of experience as a senior accountant, assistant controller, Senior Auditor or equivalent

Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.

Heavy user of accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, Intacct, Bill.com, Expensify, Fathom, etc.)

Ability to travel to local client sites as needed.

CPA preferred, but not required
