Position Overview

The Assistant Athletic Director/Development position will serve as a gift officer on behalf of the Athletic Department. This position will develop and manage a portfolio consisting of mid-major donors, major gift donors, and prospects. The primary focus will be on identifying new prospects, cultivating current/prospective donors, soliciting major gifts, and stewarding existing/new donors. This position will manage the Athletics Endowment Program and assist with management of the Butler Way Society.

Responsibilities

Fundraising

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 donors and prospects and work towards individual metric goals including visits, qualification/disqualifications, solicitations, and total dollars raised.
  • Identify, prioritize, cultivate and solicit current and new gift prospects primarily in, but not limited to, the $10,000-$250,000 range.
  • Partner with the Office of University Advancement to ensure compliance with all relevant University and University Advancement fundraising policies and procedures.
  • Manage Athletics Endowment Program with expectations of donor participation and endowment growth.
  • Assist Senior Associate Athletic Director/Development with all fundraising initiatives
     

Events

  • Attend and have a presence at Athletics Department and Bulldog Club fundraising events including, but not limited to, Butler Basketball Tip-Off Party, Butler Way Society events, Corporate Golf Outing, Butler Golf Classic, Hall of Fame events, and Athletic Director’s Reception.
  • Collaborate with Director of Development and Advancement events team for planning and administration of Athletics Department and Bulldog Club fundraising event.
     

Priority Points

  • Bulldog Club lead for the Priority Points System
  • Maintain full knowledge and history of the points system and provide answers and suggestions to any inquiries from current/prospective donors and season ticket holders.
  • Work directly with Advancement Services on coordinating all priority point information and data.
  • Serve as lead for Advancement staff when they receive questions about priority points, serving as a resource for all front-line fundraisers so they have a working knowledge of the priority points system to better assist University donors/prospects.
  • Assist the Athletics Ticket Office in annual Select-A-Seat event
     

Hospitality

  • On gamedays, spend time in various hospitality areas (i.e. Wildman Room, Efroymson Family Gym, Tony’s on 49th, Sellick Room, and Terrace Tent) effectively using this time to cultivate relationships with those donors/prospects in attendance.
     

Donor Relations

  • Cultivation and stewardship; attend away games and associated events (when applicable) to further relationships with assigned donors and prospects.
  • Full understanding of the university’s alumni, donor, and prospective donor database with the ability look-up data on specific donors, run lists of gifts and data, as well as input contact reports.
     

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years successful fundraising related (sales) experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of philanthropy and fundraising principles
  • Organizational skills; ability to multi-task/manage several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, strategic-thinking skills; willingness to take initiative and learn
  • Experience working in intercollegiate, higher education, or non-profit fundraising
  • Ability to communicate with donors and internal constituents both written and verbal
  • Positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills along with strong customer service skills
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, collaboratively and within a team structure
  • Ability to execute face-to-face solicitations in support of organization’s mission
  • Travel related to donor visits and events as needed
  • Proficiency in software systems such as: MS Word, Office, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and fundraising CRM systems
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience in an intercollegiate athletic department preferred
