The Actuarial Department is seeking an Assistant Actuary to support the Corporate Actuarial team. Responsibilities will principally focus on transformation and modernization, rate monitoring, and financial planning. Many tasks will be performed on a recurring basis, either monthly, quarterly or annually, and often require tight completion timelines. Other tasks will require research and development and may have project timelines that span months. There will also be ad hoc requests by management that are of an immediate nature. At any time, multiple projects may be ongoing, so the ability to shift focus quickly from one project to another is necessary. The position will be based in Philadelphia, PA and will report to the Corporate Actuarial lead.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist in monthly and quarterly reporting. This includes, but is not limited to, rate monitoring, exposure monitoring, trend monitoring, and new business monitoring.
Maintain and improve upon existing dashboards in Shiny, including the Price Monitor Dashboard and Profit Study Dashboard.
Maintain existing actuarial databases in SQL.
Assist in coordinating with the various business units and non-actuarial groups to pull together exhibits for strategic plan, annual plan, and rate need monitoring.
Respond to periodic requests by producing ad hoc analyses and reports.
Contribute to the improvement, creation, and/or implementation of processes to expand capabilities, improve efficiency, and enhance effectiveness. This may include developing new Shiny dashboards for management.
Assist in serving as a technical reviewer for actuarial students, and assist with rate filings when needed.
- Four years of property and casualty actuarial experience
- BS/BA in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
- ACAS/FCAS preferred
- Proficiency in R, SQL, VBA, Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational and project management skills; works comfortably in team environment
- Should be well organized and able to maintain good documentation and record keeping.
