KXAN News is looking for a full-time dual role of assignment editor and digital content producer. This entry-level position is perfect for an applicant looking to gain insight into a dominant local newsroom and develop skills toward digital or broadcast news production. KXAN News focuses on in-depth and investigative coverage of 15 counties including Austin and surrounding areas.
Successful candidates:
- Demonstrate ability to identify potential stories, research information, follow-up on ongoing stories.
- Have strong news judgment, organization skills and ability to communicate with the public and newsroom staff.
- Have strong journalistic writing skills and understanding of AP style.
- Multi-task well and prioritize under deadline.
Duties include:
- Online writing/publishing of stories
- Continuously monitoring and updating web content.
- Using social media to gather and publish information
- Assisting morning producers and reporters with research, answering phones and providing strong customer service to callers.
Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements:
- Position requires the operation of computer and editing software.
- High level of multi-tasking with daily deadline pressures.
- Must be available to work overnight and early-morning shifts.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can take on several tasks at once and see them through to completion.
Previous experience in a newsroom required with assignment desk and/or digital reporting/producing. A Bachelor`s degree in Journalism, Communication, or related field preferred.
