Position Summary:
As an Architect at Onit, you will define and drive the technical architecture strategy for the OnitX AppBuilder Platform and associated products. The primary focus of this position will be on enhancing the engine that enables our Products team to build applications that we sell in the Legal Tech market.
The ideal candidate will be able to lead the technical direction of both Front End and Back End development as well as provide leadership and mentoring to more development and QA resources.
The current tech stack includes Ruby on Rails, React, JavaScript and PostgreSQL. We deploy to AWS. We are an agile software development shop and believe in automated testing
Responsibilities:
- Define and evolve the overall system architecture for the platform, ensuring scalability, performance, and resiliency.
- Establish architecture standards, design principles, and best practices across engineering teams.
- Lead design reviews and technical governance for major initiatives.
- Drive adoption of modern architectural patterns (microservices, event-driven systems, API-first design).
- Ensure robust security, compliance, and data privacy practices across systems.
- Provide technical leadership across multiple teams, mentoring senior engineers.
- Act as a go-to expert for complex technical challenges and escalations.
- Influence engineering culture by promoting engineering excellence, code quality, and innovation.
- Work with engineering leadership on long-term platform strategy and capacity planning.
- Collaborate with DevOps and SRE teams to ensure efficient deployment and operational excellence.
- Drive initiatives in AI integration, automation, and intelligent workflows.
- Continuously improve development velocity and system performance.
Skills & Requirements:
- 12–15+ years of experience in software engineering and system architecture.
- Strong expertise in: Ruby on Rails (or similar dynamic backend frameworks), React / modern frontend frameworks, Distributed systems and microservices architecture
- Deep understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and data modeling.
- Strong experience with: Cloud platforms (AWS preferred), CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Bachelor of engineering in computer science/Software engineering or other similar equivalent disciplines is required.
