Qualys is seeking a Data Platform Architect to design, scale, and support our next-generation SaaS cloud security data platform and microservices infrastructure. In this role, you will architect, prototype, and optimize high-throughput data platform components processing millions of transactions per second across relational, NoSQL, graph, and message pipeline systems.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain high-throughput, microservices-based SaaS cloud data platform architectures.
- Optimize performance, high availability, security, and scalability across relational databases, NoSQL databases, search engines, graph databases, and message queues.
- Instrument Day 1 and Day 2 operations to manage cloud platform workloads processing millions of transactions per second.
- Review cloud-native architectures, facilitate cloud migration strategies, and maintain zero-downtime scalability.
- Partner with engineering, product management, and operations teams to align infrastructure features with corporate business objectives.
- Conduct technical knowledge-sharing sessions, proof-of-concept (POC) evaluations, and architectural reviews with application development teams.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in data platform architecture, software engineering, or enterprise big data engineering.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated experience architecting and operating distributed databases (NoSQL, Relational, Search Engines, or Graph Databases) at scale.
- Hands-on experience designing and deploying high-throughput message pipelines and distributed streaming systems.
- Proven experience building and scaling cloud-native SaaS architectures with high-availability requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Direct experience managing transaction workloads operating at scale (e.g., millions of operations per second or multi-terabyte daily volumes).
- Deep technical expertise in containerization, microservices deployment, and cloud-bursting strategies.
- Experience conducting architectural evaluations and leading brown-bag training sessions for development teams.
Skills Required
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science or related field
- 12+ years hands-on experience developing SaaS-based software products and service-oriented deployments in public or private clouds
- Prior experience as a lead engineer or architect
- Prior experience with RDBMS systems and NoSQL databases
- Proven expertise in data-driven critical thinking and problem-solving
- Ability to debug complex software systems and team/process issues
- Demonstrated ability to write high-quality, production-ready code (readable, well-tested, with well-designed APIs)
- Experience with infrastructure orchestration and automation tools (Terraform)
- Hands-on experience using CI/CD pipelines
- Data platform design/build experience utilizing Cassandra, Redis, Elasticsearch, Kafka, Ceph, Flink, Spark or similar technologies
- Java programming skills including object-oriented design, prototyping, development, testing, profiling
- Knowledge of JVM concepts (garbage collection, heap, stack, profiling, class loading)
- Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms
- Ability to clearly articulate and communicate technical concepts within and across teams
