Summary
As a HIS application specialist with a focus on medication management, you will play a strategic role in the implementation, configuration and support of hospital information systems (HIS). Your primary responsibility will be to ensure efficiency, safety and regulatory compliance in the end-to-end management of the medication cycle by optimizing the process from prescription to administration and ensuring the effective use of technology.
You will work closely with healthcare professionals, IT teams and end users to ensure effective utilization of HIS applications, helping to improve patient care, optimize workflows and elevate overall operational efficiency.
As an “expert” product specialist for customers, you will need to thoroughly understand their processes, evaluate the best solutions and advise on the optimal implementation of the standard solution. Your objective will be to maximize the benefits of the solution for the customer, keeping specific work to a minimum and liaising with various areas of the business.
It is essential that you keep up to date on new developments and improvements related to the medication cycle, closely following updates made and their impact on medication management. In addition, you will need to be available to visit customer sites and could be assigned to projects that require regular travel, nationally and internationally, with the possibility of spending up to 5 days away from home each week.
The Application Specialist will operate according to the latest version of InterSystems' Implementation Methodology, known as ARIES, which will be periodically adjusted as part of the company's culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
The Application Specialist will act in accordance with the latest version of the InterSystems Implementation Methodology: ARIES. The Application Specialist will be responsible for the following:
Discovery
- Review proposal and bid documentation in detail, pointing out to the team any deficiencies in identified functional areas.
- Analyze the client's processes, with special emphasis on medication cycle workflows, to understand their specific needs and challenges.
- Identify customer needs and pain points, as well as possible solutions that align with their requirements.
- Conduct presentations and demonstrations of proposed solutions, highlighting how they address medication management issues and optimize the medication cycle.
Launch
- Consult and advise the customer on how adoption of the InterSystems solution could benefit the customer to improve their existing processes.
- Propose solutions to customer issues by mapping existing product components and minimizing the need for variations to standard ISC product lines, including, where appropriate, regional editions.
- Collaborate closely with customers and internal teams to understand and document specific drug management requirements, ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practices
- Work with the client to ensure that initial data collection information is obtained correctly and on schedule.
- Log any additional configurations, through the edit change process and follow up with the product team to close out configurations.
Setup
- Set up configuration in the client environment for complete medication cycle management
- Creation of validation scripts to verify the agreed configuration
- Participate in the validation of the configured functionalities, ensuring that they comply with the agreed design and requirements
- Log incidents following standard corporate procedure
- Troubleshoot customer issues during validation phases
- Follow up on test fixes and collaborate with project manager/product team to implement fixes.
- Differentiate between issues and change requests, recording them according to standard corporate procedures
- Produce detailed and high quality documentation during the configuration of the medication cycle in the system, ensuring efficient medication management and facilitating communication between internal areas for optimal integration of tools and processes.
Adoption
- Actively participate in the Go Live simulation, ensuring that all aspects of the system are operational and meet established requirements.
- Prepare and develop training material for trainers, if required, including detailed guides and educational resources to ensure correct knowledge transfer.
- Deliver both individual and group training, conduct product demonstrations and facilitate hands-on workshops according to customer needs, ensuring effective understanding and optimal use of the system.
- Provide on-site support during system implementation for customers, addressing real-time issues and ensuring a smooth and successful transition to the new system
Maintenance
- Collaborate closely with other InterSystems departments to resolve any outstanding issues, ensuring fast and effective incident resolution.
- Efficiently complete the handover of the project to the support area, ensuring a smooth transition and proper transfer of responsibilities.
- Analyze and document lessons learned from the implementation process, identifying areas for improvement and compiling recommendations for future implementations.
- Work on the ongoing optimization of HIS applications, focusing on streamlining workflows and improving overall system performance to maximize efficiency.
- Collaborate with technical teams to implement upgrades, patches and new functionality, ensuring the system stays current with the latest enhancements and standards.
Permanent Responsibilities
- Analyze customer processes to understand how our solutions integrate with their specific medication cycle requirements, ensuring an optimal and effective fit.
- Consult and advise the customer on how the adoption of the InterSystems solution can improve their medication management processes, providing recommendations to optimize the medication cycle.
- Provide support to project team members and facilitate knowledge transfer on medication cycle applications, promoting continuous training and skills development in the various teams.
- Maintain consistent, high quality and traceable documentation related to medication management, ensuring that all relevant information is properly recorded and accessible.
- Research and study new functionality available in the TrakCare product, keeping up to date with the latest innovations to integrate improvements that benefit the medication cycle and customer processes.
Skills & Experience :
Exclusionary
- Pharmaceutical Chemist Degree: The applicant must be a pharmaceutical chemist, which will allow them to provide a technical and regulatory approach to medication management.
Essential
- At least 3 years of experience in the healthcare business and solid knowledge of the workflows, standards and regulatory requirements of the public and private healthcare sector in Chile.
- Demonstrated experience in the implementation and support of hospital information systems.
- Proficient in HIS applications, including customization and configuration.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
- Experience in training end users and providing ongoing support.
- Knowledge of data management, security and confidentiality considerations in healthcare.
Desirable
- Experience in communicating with key stakeholders at different levels within healthcare organizations which may be public and/or private sector companies.
- Demonstrable experience in implementation of HIS systems with a focus on medication management.
- Experience in customer facing IT services
- Previous experience as an application or configuration specialist in hospital information systems.
- Previous change management experience.
- Certification in relevant HIS applications or health informatics.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as HL7 and FHIR.
- Management skills to coordinate HIS implementation activities.
- Knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in health IT.
Education and Training (Required):
- University degree in Chemistry and Pharmacy, with experience in pharmacy flows and clinical pharmaceutical chemist. Specific training in health information systems management will be an asset.
- English proficiency (reading, writing and speaking).
