About the Role

Are you an applications scientist with hands-on experience in analytical sample preparation and bioanalytical workflows, and an interest in laboratory automation?

We are looking for an Applications Scientist to join our EMEA Regional Marketing team. This is a customer-facing technical role focused primarily on developing, optimising and demonstrating sample preparation applications, with a particular emphasis on Solid Phase Extraction (SPE), Supported Liquid Extraction (SLE) and related workflows used in bioanalysis, pharmaceutical and CRO laboratories.

You will develop and optimise applications, generate application data, support customer evaluations and create technical content that demonstrates how Biotage solutions can address real-world laboratory challenges.

The role will also involve supporting the automation of sample preparation workflows, working with automated liquid-handling platforms where appropriate. While automation experience is valuable, the primary focus of the role is building strong applications expertise in sample preparation and bioanalytical workflows.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in helping shape how we respond to evolving customer and market needs across EMEA.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop, optimise and troubleshoot sample preparation applications and workflows, with a particular focus on SPE, SLE and related techniques.

  • Develop and optimise applications relevant to bioanalysis, pharmaceutical, CRO and other analytical laboratory workflows.

  • Investigate customer sample preparation challenges and develop practical, robust and reproducible solutions.

  • Generate application data and technical evidence to demonstrate workflow performance, robustness, reproducibility and customer value.

  • Support customer demonstrations, proof-of-concept activities, technical evaluations and workflow implementation.

  • Work alongside Sales to understand customer requirements and provide appropriate technical and applications support.

  • Support the development of automated sample preparation workflows, including translating manual laboratory processes into automated methods where appropriate.

  • Develop application notes, workflow guides, presentations, webinars and other technical content to support commercial and marketing activity.

  • Identify customer needs, emerging application trends and opportunities for new or improved sample preparation workflows.

  • Support product launches and provide technical input into EMEA marketing campaigns and activities.

  • Work with Product Management, R&D and global marketing teams to share customer insight and contribute to application and product development.

  • Build and share applications expertise across the EMEA organisation.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for an applications-focused scientist or chemist who has practical experience in analytical sample preparation and is keen to develop their expertise further in bioanalytical workflows and laboratory automation.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree or advanced degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Life Sciences or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Relevant industry or laboratory experience in analytical chemistry, bioanalysis, sample preparation or a related field.

  • Practical experience with Solid Phase Extraction (SPE), Supported Liquid Extraction (SLE) and/or other analytical sample preparation techniques.

  • Experience developing, optimising and troubleshooting laboratory or analytical methods.

  • A good understanding of sample preparation workflows, particularly within pharmaceutical, bioanalytical, CRO or analytical laboratory environments.

  • Experience with laboratory automation, automated liquid handling or workflow development would be an advantage, but is not essential.

  • An interest in developing skills in automation and applying automation to sample preparation workflows.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate customer requirements into practical laboratory solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills and confidence presenting technical information to customers and commercial and technical colleagues.

  • A customer-focused and commercially aware approach, with an interest in understanding customer needs and application trends.

A willingness to learn, adapt and develop expertise across different applications and technologies.

  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly across the EMEA region.

Why Join Biotage?

This is an opportunity to develop your scientific and applications expertise while working on real-world challenges in sample preparation and bioanalytical workflows.

You will work across a varied mix of laboratory development, customer projects, technical evaluations and application content, gaining exposure to both established and emerging sample preparation applications. You will also have the opportunity to develop your understanding of laboratory automation and how it can be applied to improve sample preparation workflows.

If you enjoy practical laboratory problem-solving, working directly with customers and developing solutions that make laboratory workflows simpler and more effective, this role offers an excellent opportunity to build your career within a global life science company.
