We are looking for an Application Engineer to join our growing Industrial Heating Solutions team. In this customer-facing role, you will develop application solutions utilizing Copeland's industrial heat pump portfolio, working closely with customers, Sales, Engineering, and New Product Development teams to deliver technically sound and commercially competitive solutions.

This position can be based in Overath or Aachen, Germany, with a hybrid working model.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for industrial heat pump applications and related services, including factory acceptance testing (FAT) and field commissioning activities.
  • Partner closely with the Sales team to support customer enquiries, customer meetings, and technical discussions.
  • Develop application concepts, technical proposals, and solution designs that support commercial customer offers.
  • Analyze customer requirements and recommend the most effective industrial heating solutions.
  • Collaborate with compressor and controls R&D teams, New Product Development engineers, suppliers, and solution architects to create optimized customer solutions.
  • Support preliminary system design activities for customer projects transitioning into execution.
  • Monitor developments within the industrial heat pump market, including emerging technologies and competitive solutions, and provide market insights to leadership.
  • Represent Copeland at industry events, customer meetings, technical conferences, and workshops.
  • Build strong customer relationships through a consultative and solution-oriented approach.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
  • While we prefer at least 5 years of experience, candidates with approximately 2 years of highly relevant experience may also be considered if they demonstrate strong technical capability, customer-facing experience, and the right attitude.
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, refrigeration systems, and heat pump technologies.
  • Experience working with customer applications and providing technical recommendations.
  • Ability to combine technical expertise with commercial awareness.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, project coordination, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within an international, cross-functional team environment.
  • Fluent English language skills are required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree specialization in Mechanical Engineering, Thermodynamics, Refrigeration, or related disciplines.
  • Experience with industrial refrigeration and industrial heat pump applications.
  • Technical sales or customer-facing engineering experience.
  • Additional European language skills are advantageous.
  • Experience supporting industrial heating, energy efficiency, or thermal management projects.
