Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.  Since then, we have expanded our services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee.

Our sole purpose is to support and treat those challenged with serious mental illness and poverty. Although based out of Nashville, we serve several communities across middle and East Tennessee with satellite offices in Antioch, Gallatin, Dickson, Columbia, Cleveland, Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.

The Application Developer / Solutions Developer designs, develops, implements, and supports business applications and technology solutions that improve operational efficiency, data access, and user experience. The role works across web applications, electronic forms, workflow and file automation, databases, APIs, system integrations, and reporting solutions. This position partners with business and technical stakeholders to translate business needs into secure, reliable, maintainable, and scalable solutions.

Position Location: Nashville, TN

  • 10% onsite work
  • 90% remote
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and define functional and technical requirements.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain web applications, forms, workflow solutions, file-processing utilities, integrations, and reporting solutions.
  • Develop and support interfaces among applications, databases, third-party platforms, APIs, and file-based data exchanges.
  • Create technical designs that balance delivery speed, maintainability, security, performance, scalability, and user experience.
  • Write clean, well-structured, reusable, and documented code in accordance with application development standards.
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining practical version-control practices for source code, database scripts, configuration files, and related technical documentation, including repository organization and basic contributor guidance.
  • Develop database objects, queries, and data-access components needed to support applications and business solutions.
Solution Delivery and Support
  • Manage changes in requirements by clarifying priorities, documenting decisions, maintaining traceability, and aligning approved changes with the underlying business need.
  • Perform unit, integration, regression, and user-acceptance testing; address defects before production release.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues, isolate root causes, restore service, and implement preventive improvements.
  • Monitor application health, performance, security, and reliability; recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Evaluate tools and technologies and recommend practical solutions that align with organizational standards and long-term objectives.
  • Communicate project status, risks, dependencies, tradeoffs, and support needs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Professional experience developing and supporting business applications or software solutions across multiple technologies.
  • Experience with web application development, relational databases, SQL, APIs, system integration, file processing, electronic forms, or reporting technologies.
  • Working knowledge of secure development practices, application architecture, testing, debugging, deployment processes, and basic version-control concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business processes and translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience supporting production applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver quality work in a changing environment.
  • Strong written, verbal, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with a collaborative source-control platform such as Git, Azure DevOps, or GitHub.
  • Experience delivering end-to-end solutions that combine applications, databases, integrations, automation, and reporting.
  • Experience with Microsoft development platforms, SQL Server, cloud services, low-code platforms, business intelligence tools, or related enterprise technologies.
  • Knowledge of accessibility, privacy, data security, authentication, authorization, and regulatory compliance considerations.
  • Experience working with vendors, third-party applications, and cross-functional project teams.
  • Experience improving or automating measurable business processes.

Work Environment and Expectations
