Role Overview:

Data Specialist is the subject matter expert for everything data related for email marketing campaigns managed by the  Ads Campaign Operations (ACO) team. From understanding the signals available, building and maintaining pipelines for campaign targeting sets to monitoring campaign health and troubleshooting if things go sideways. On top of their technical excellence, they can also confidently talk about the data aspect of our campaigns to internal and external stakeholders.  

The Data Specialist is the foremost expert on all data aspects of email marketing campaigns within the Ads Campaign Operations (ACO) team. Their responsibilities encompass understanding available signals, constructing and maintaining pipelines for campaign targeting, and monitoring and troubleshooting campaign health. In addition to their technical proficiency, they can effectively communicate data-driven campaign insights to both internal and external stakeholders.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders in the management of audience signals in building target audiences and leveraging in the end to end campaign execution process

  • Create, manage and validate campaign audiences through SQL scripting

  • Collaborate with analytics teams during experiment setup conversations, e.g. providing insights into signals used in the respective campaigns, explain system behavior and its impact on experiment setup (filtration rates and filtration reasons), confirm feasibility of  implementation on targeting script and system workflow level. 

  • Responsible for the maintenance and operation of data pipelines; ensuring that the pipelines are running smoothly, identifying and resolving any issues that may arise, and implementing improvements to the pipelines to ensure they are efficient and effective

  • Communicate campaign performance results across multiple teams and stakeholders   

  • Create reporting dashboards and adhoc reports for marketers 

  • Develop key relationships with stakeholders and possess the communication skills and confidence to deliver technical information to non-technical audiences

  • Act as the go-to subject matter expert for data availability for marketing campaigns

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience with SQL, data pipeline building and maintenance, creating and modifying SQL statements to create complex segments for audience targeting

  • Ability to use code libraries to streamline code readability and efficiency  

  • Experience working with data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker, Google internal PLX/Data Studio)

  • 2-3 years of experience with data pipelines and analytics for email marketing

  • Demonstrable experience in a marketing environment in the IT industry

  • Experience with integrated development environment like XCode, VSC or Eclipse (Google internal: Cider) and version control systems like GitHub (Google internal: google3)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional languages beyond SQL (e.g. Python) is beneficial, but not required

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, ability to manage stakeholders

  • Ability to communicate observations and recommendations in a clear and data driven way

  • Demonstrable knowledge of email marketing best practices, dynamic content, testing methodologies, deliverability and automation

  • Familiarity using GenAI (generative AI) as an input for data targeting and personalization in email marketing

  • Experience designing,  running and evaluating email marketing A/B testsAdditional languages besides SQL (e.g. Python) are a plus

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills and stakeholder management

  • Ability to clearly communicate data-driven observations and recommendations

  • Proven expertise in email marketing best practices, including dynamic content, testing methodologies, deliverability, and automation

  • Experience using GenAI (generative AI) to inform data targeting and personalization in email marketing

  • Experience designing, executing, and evaluating A/B tests for email marketing
